I figure if the show starts at 9:00 and Tommy Keene plays 45 minutes, the boys should be on stage by 10:15. So I should start drinking at...

well, depends...
how many beers is a hot night? I'd prolly start halfway through the opener, peaking around 90 minutes into GbV's set.
maybe have a 1-2 beer pregame at home too.
during, or right after, lunchtime.

Well I have to drive through an hour and a half of LA Freeway traffic so I'll be going like 2-3 mph. Maybe I'll start with a sixer at home and take it from there. :)
Damn I wish I could go. That show sold out so damn fast.

I lucked out and got tickets from a guy on ebay for $21 a piece. Don't worry though, Rich T (or was it Patrick?) said they'll be back in LA by the end of the year for sure. This Spaceland gig is so tiny though. Only holds 240 drunks. Now where's that bottle of Jim Beam I was hiding from my wife?

Of course the answer to this question is within your own body. What kind of drinker are you? How quickly do you get intoxicated? And, most importantly, what is your endurance for alcohol? Remember, GBV puts on a 2 and half hour show, at least.
When I saw them in G.R. two months ago I started out with a Sierra Nevada pale ale before the opening act. Then I ordered another during that set. When they were done and GBV was setting up I was mingling with friends in the crowd. Then, right before GBV hit I got a double shot of Jack and a 24 ounce can of Fosters and moved up front to the stage. During the wonderful marathon show my buddy and I took turns retrieving brews. In total, I probably put away 8 or 9 beers and that double shot of Jack. That's a lot of booze, but I was jumping up and down, singing along and sweated like a stuck pig. Plus, I was in the club for almost four hours.
Next day my ears were buzzin' and I had a pleasant, dreamy smile on my face. Moved a bit slower, but happy as a lark.

Last year at the House of Blues, we had a waitress who stopped by with Heineken's every 20 minutes. My friends and I must have consumed 120 each. By the time the band quit we were still toasted. Had to stay another 2 1/2 hours drinking water before I could drive. Must have spent $1200 bucks that night and the ticket was only $20.
Note: These figures are merely estimates and may not represent the actual events of that evening. Please do not under any circumstances drink and drive and always bring a designated driver to your GBV shows. Thanks and have a good evening. (Yes I've already started).
