What did you all think of the show? I, for one, appreciated the fact that they mostly stuck to material from their last 3 albums. It made the hits from B000, Alien Lanes, and UTBUTS seem even more special. Also, I got totally hammered. My only problem? No second encore.

Great show but the AHOLES in the front got out of hand. It's one thing to dance but when you start running into and elbowing people who are just standing around drinking beer, it's time to get tossed out. And Bob was mumbling and incoherent by the end.

That show was undoubtedly the shit. I haven't heard much of the recent Fading Captain stuff, but the stuff from Circus Devils sounded great-heavy as hell. The opening with the horns going into "My Son..." and "I'll Replace You with Machines" is the bomb. All the oldies sounded good. I thought the crowd was great. It's nice to see grown men and a couple ladies completely lose their shit every once in a while. Bob's poses during the first half of the show were simulataneously hysterical and the shit. That stuff he does with his hands...what the hell is that? I think the openers, "Secret Star," "Watch Me Jumpstart" and "A Salty Salute" (with Jim Greer) were the highlights. Oh yeah, and "That's Amore" of course. By far the best crowd reaction I've seen at a GBV show yet. It sounded like everyone in the house was singing along to "A Salty Salute." Fucking great.

This was probably the least enjoyable GBV show I've been to. I know we have different takes on the crowd attitude but there were several jerkoffs who were going out of their way to start fights in the in the front. At least 3 fights nearly broke out right in front of me. My niece was broadsided by some moron who was 3 times her size and was deliberately pushing people on the periphery of the "pit".
That and the rather mundane song selections and way too loud PA contributed to my least favorite GBV experience. I really dislike the fact that Bob has resorted to the standard 2 or 3 songs from each of the old albums and didn't pull any surprises. If you read the last set list before this, it's pretty much identical. Oh well I was expecting something a little better.
I didn't get to go to the Spaceland show, but I did see them on Saturday night @ Sunset Junction. I thought it was a great show. Sunset Junction usually sucks, when you actually want to see a band, but this year it was awesome. I had no problem finding a good spot, and they played great. Plus Bob had some pretty hilarious banter about being hoisted to the top of Indie Rock, and Lou Barlow, Stephen Malkmus, and Wayne Coyne being pissed. He also forgot the lyrics to the beginning of "Don't stop now" and the drummer had to remind him. They played for 2 hrs. which surprised me (most of the other bands only got an hour.)

lol--that sounds pretty funny. What exactly was Bob referring to with that?
He was just talking about how "Don't Stop Now" was the Ballad of GBV (He says that about every song) and started rambling on from there.
