Hey everyone---

Just wondering, what exactly is the origin of the "GBV symbol" or whatever that started being used around 1996 (you know, that circle with the line and arrow in it)? It's on the GBV Box-Set "coupon" if you're not sure of what I'm referring to. I've just always wondered about that.

Thanks!

Ahhh, the rune... and my future tattoo. Think "paper football," and it all becomes clear.

Stevie Chick Bob Pollard Interview (http://www.gbv.com/steviechickinterview.html):

THERE’S NO REAL GBV LOGO YET, THOUGH, IS THERE?

Well, there’s that thing, the ‘logo’, we’re not sure what its supposed to be though... [THE GBV RUNE]

IT’S SUPPOSED TO BE A FOOTBALL GOING OVER A GOAL, ISN’T IT?

Yeah. That’s not what I drew, though, I was just doodling on the phone one day, and I drew that. It became our logo.

Anyone have a picture of this logo?

step 1: look at the cover of Mag Earwhig
step 2: notice the little drawing toward the right hand corner.

Voila. There's the symbol.

It's on several GbV records. I know it's on one of the planes on the Isolation Drills sleeve. I think it's on some of the singles ("I Am a Tree" maybe -- I lost my copy so I can't look at it). And I think it first appeard on Sunfish Holy Breakfast, but don't quote me on that.

yes, it Sunfish Holy Breakfast was the first release it appeared on.

As far as Mag Earwhig era singles, it is large on the cover of Bulldog Skin.

and Helter Skelter, if you don't want to start digging out your CDs, an easy way to see the symbol would be to go on this site to the GBV news page where they talk about the golden ticket and enlarge the golden ticket jpg--it's in one of the corners.

bobs use of the symbol reminds me of blue oyster cult. i know he was a fan and the cover of i.d. is very similar to secret treaties. i never thought of the paper football thing till skip said it at the birdys show. boc always had a symbol on their album covers, sometimes hidden. like an upsidedown question mark. it caused a lot of controversy saying it was an upside down cross meaning satanism.

No the symbol in the bottom left corner. Opposite to the Matador logo.

This is a link to a really large GIF-image of the logo I once used for something, forgot about it though.

I can't remember the logo appearing anywhere else but on the covers of Sunfish Holy Breakfast, Mag Earwhig! and on Isolation Drills.

Y'know, I was looking near and far for something unique to get as a tattoo... And there it was the whole time, right in front of my face.
