posters for the new Cat Power rekerd are going for $20 on e-bay... any thought of selling promo posters in the Matador Store like Drag City is doing now?

that'd be nice! no more overpaying!

actually there's this fave band in my country and in their office they actually give promo posters, many, u just have to show up. Last time I was given so many I had to give a few. Hard to carry. And promo cd's, too, with this enhanced part from the album.

Yes, posters! It would be great to be able to buy catPower mechandise. And t-shirts, zippos, ashtrays. (i'm being serious.) Mousepads.... But at least a poster i could hang from the ceiling.

i mean, nobody really WANTS to have a big poster of themselves stuck on some kid's wall--but we're all pretty much obsessed with this music; we like to support things.

Etc....

Uh, actually inBOIL, some love to see their faces hung up a kid's wall, but we know who I'm talking about as well as they aren't, like, musicians, they just do those stupid videos and make faces to the cam.

Yes, I'd love to support, but I'm also kinda against making this sorta music I love so much too popular or too mocked on. A shirt or 2 for special ocasions ok, stickers and such to make visible to anyone, fooling the art. Call me crazy, but that's what I think, tho I respect your opinion, I think different, that's all.

take care.

I never understood the "I don't want [favorite artist] to be popular" line... ah well.

Posters, though, I love. It is always disappointing that there are so many beautiful concert and promo posters that are released, but are impossible to get a hold of. I mean, it is nice having a rare poster sometimes, but it just blows to not even have a chance.

The tasteless and pointless things like mousepads, though, I could live without. ;-)

amazonida, i agree with you sort-of (which is why i tippy-toed around that post) but the reality is: you've got no say in what happens to catPower. Having a dish detergent with Chan's face on it isn't going to boost her popularity any. Why would it? Only a fan is gonna want posters, t-shirts, nail-polish remover. It's not like they're starting-up a Walmart distribution. She hasn't totally exploded yet, but she's not unknown, either. You've probably heard some of the new album, and it's really friggin' good. It's just a great album, and it's gonna get some airplay. You can be prepared for it, or you can sit around crying. (Don't mean to sound nasty, or anything.) Art exists within the entertainment realm, and you can blame the fact we're all sitting here like dopes talking about a girl we've never met, or you can blame the media--but it's OUR fascination one-way-or-the-other that causes this stuff to happen.

And showing off your cool musical tastes is different than having something, like a poster, to make you smile every morning when you wakeup grumbly and cursing gOd.

Also, i don't own any band t-shirts.--But i would love a catPower t-shirt to cuddle-up in. (And the mousepad-thing was a joke. Just trying to note that there's a need/want for this sorta' promotion....)

If you are like me discussion-wise, you could curse me the worst way a human being can and still I wouldn't mind, it's about saying what you think and listen to other points of view. And I don't mean to hide her (she can do it herself), but I've seen her in front of a huge crowd and her reaction before getting onstage.

Saying that nothing changes by not showing her face and music around (to me) is like saying nothing changes if I throw my candy paper on the ground or in the trashcan.

I would LOVE, LOVE to have her poster in my bedroom for the same reason u would, tho I have a pic I took with her to have that effect.

Later, skater.

(if u'd like, we can keep talking in private messages in case ppl feel bored or don't wanna share their oppinion)

I've got a framed poster from 'What Would the Community Think' on my wall and it's one of the coolest things I have because I love Cat Power and the picture rules.

My friend who puts bands on gave the poster to me which was cool but as a rule it doesn't make sense for promoters / radio stations etc to be the only people to get this stuff. Half of it ends up on ebay making them cash and not promoting anything and I'm sure a lot gets trashed/wasted which I know makes the stuff more sought-after and valuable but surely for bands like Cat Power and labels like Matador where everyone isn't becoming millionaires, it would make sense to sell cool stuff like posters or the radio station ep that's doing the rounds (that might help people check out the older albums) and let the label/artist see a bit more well-deserved cash and stop the equally cool fans from getting selling their kidneys to buy things.

Hey, speaking of Cat Power posters, you can get a free Cat Power poster from the PETA website here: http://www.peta2.com/outthere/o-catpower.asp?c=185

Don't think they will send it to Belgium, but I'll give it a try. Thanks for the site, by the way.
