Menomena: I Am The Fun Blame Monster

This is simply awesome. Weird, experimental indie, an album that makes me go "whoa". You can order it and hear clips from www.cdbaby.com, also check out their weird website www.menomena.com.

I know Pitchfork reviews can't really be trusted, but you might want to check their review (http://www.pitchforkmedia.com/record-reviews/m/menomena/i-am-the-fun-blame-monster.shtml) of it.

nice topic.

Beston - How to Pass Wonder On

Art Hurts Records is the label, started by Beston himself.

here's the albums page on their website, though the best songs don't have clips - 2,5,6 are the best ones (titles, not track #s.)

He's spoken word/hip-hop like I've never heard before - mixing jazz, flaminco, and carribian, without sounding like reggae. He produces and performs his own stuff, he's magnificent on the stand-up bass... writes some of the best poetry/lyrics I've ever had the pleasure of hearing. I really can't say enough good things about it. I don't like rap.. i can only handle SOME hip-hop. But this album is fantastic.

His other albums are ok, the oldest is more accessable, the newest more standard hip-hop, but "How to Pass Wonder On", his sophomore release, is my personal favorite.

I really hope that someone here takes my advice and tries this out. It's one of the obscure finds that I'm most proud of.
