apparently the new album is packaged with a 5 song EP... any clue as to what's on this?
(if it's new material, I'm not saying "Oh, post all the titles of the songs so I can download them and never buy the CD, JACK!" just like, a general idea of if it's new tracks or a "best of" sampler, and whether or not it contains the sweet, sweet aural syrup that is "Old Jerry"...)

I'm guessing the info about this either Super-Duper-Top-Secret, or there is no EP.

I think I read somewhere else that this was happening (maybe on the Pavement message board). Come to think of it, maybe that's where you heard about it in the first place and why you're asking for confirmation.

The first 25,000 or so will come in a nice digipak with a slipcase containing a second CD. This bonus CD will contain 5 songs - 2 unreleased studio outtakes from the album, and 3 live tracks from recent shows, including songs they have not released on record.
Price will be the same, and it will be available as long as supplies last. Then it just turns into a regular single CD jewelcase.

Sorry, no extras on the vinyl, goddammit. I wish there were. At least I can assure you that the vinyl was mastered at Acoustech, one of the last true vinyl mastering labs.

great! r.e.m. should've released their live rarities on their singles instead of bland versions of studio trax..
will "us" precede the album as a single? if so, will there be overlap between those b-sides and the EP?

Matador! why do you do this to me!
now, I'm not really annoyed, but it leaves me with a question.
so you've slowly been phasing out vinyl releases (aereogramme is CD only, some others too I feel like, but I'm not sure), but you make the CD more compelling to buy for bonus track purposes. like with Terror Twilight. I was all set to buy that piece on wax, and then the bonus DVD turned up, and the vinyl only 1-sided 7inch was axed for the purposes of the "spit on a stranger" single, leaving big fans few reasons to buy the vinyl the day it came out.
now I'm all set to buy Pig Lib on vinyl because the cover art is great and I wanted it big, and I wanted to be able to use it when DJing, and I find out that the CD is much more appealing to me, because of this bonus EP. I think its fantastic that the vinyl was mastered well (does that mean AAA mastering, btw?), but who do you expect will buy the already less-popular vinyl option when the CD has so much more to offer?
I'm sure there's good reasons (cheaper to make a bonus CD than bonus 7" or something like that), but you could just float a CD in the record sleeve like Darla did with the first 2000-odd copies of the My Morning Jacket CDand LP sets, making both of them equally appealing.
I hate making somewhat whiny format-based suggestions, as I've rolled my eyes at many a poster who gripes about minute stuff, but I just wanted to say my piece.
word.

We wanted to include special material on the vinyl as well but were pressed for time mainly... Jesper will expand on the details...
We are 100% committed to vinyl and to quality vinyl and will continue to release it on any release where it makes economic sense - we need to sell about 1000 copies to break even. (I'd say 9 out 10 of our releases have a vinyl configuration these days.)

Could you offer the CD-EP to people with proof of purchase for the vinyl? I know at my record store they give away free EPs and other bonus stuff when you buy a certain package.

in response to an earlier post/question:
if i'm not mistaken, AAA mastering means that it's entirely analog so that there's no steps up or steps down in the process. low tend to advertise this on all their lp sleeves-you could say they wear their cred on their sleeves, eh?
mike myers moment-apologies.
i'm looking forward to the new album, but i wish it had more moments like water and a seat, which i heard for the first time at warsaw last december and nearly creamed myself a la bob in slow century. maybe not so dramatically...
that's my new favorite malk song, followed by dark wave and (oysters), although i miss the old lyric "vmi, oh vmi/oh fucking a & m" since i've always loved the sports references in pavement/sm songs.
a goalline stand on 4th & 2...

does this mean you'll make the jump to "weighty yet inexpensive" vinyl?

Oh, I know what it means, I was just wondering if the Pig Lib LP would be done all analong, as Patrick alluded to special mastering at one of the last true vinyl mastering labs.
to be a nitpick, Low only advertised AAA on Secret Name and Things We Lost In The Fire, and possibly Trust, but I'm not sure.
their Vernon Yard albums never came out on vinyl. I think its more of a Kranky records thing rather than a Low thing, because the Labradford LP that came out at the same time as Secret Name had the exact same sticker thumbing its nose at the digital realm.

EP Details according to Amazon.com:
Limited-edition bonus CD contains five unreleased songs, including "Dynamic Calories," "Fractions & Feelings," "Old Jerry," and "The Poet & the Witch" recorded live Malmo, Sweden, February 10, 2001, and "Shake it Around," recorded live Melbourne, Australia, July 18, 2001.
Since they didn't play Dynamic Calories, Fractions & Feeling OR Old Jerry in Malmo, I figure that those are studio tracks. So that means we get OLD JERRY in a studio version!! Yipee!!!

I just ordered from Insound, I'm assuming that means I get the EP? cause I really can't afford it anyway, but I'll be pretty pissed if it arrives minus the bonus disc.
