Bob has said he hates Hold on Hope because the chords are so obvious. He also has said Baba O'Reilly is the greatest rock song ever written. With some rather obvious chords (E-A-E-A-E-A-E-A-E-A, etc., and throw in a B in there at some point).

Is it possible for both these statements to be true?

hmmm, I think the reason why he hates HOH so much is because he was more or less forced into putting it on DTC by Ric Ockasaec.

First of all, I really like Hold on Hope. The verses alone are among the saddest and catchiest things Bob has ever done. But I can see how he hates it because where Baba O'Reilly is really kick ass with unusual electronic noises, Hold on Hope is a sappy ballad. There is probably nothing original about it, although I still think that it should belong on the GBV's Matador Greatest Hits disc.

the TVT-era tracks won't be on the Best Of CD.

Well that certainly does suck. Guess that it won't really be a greatest hits then. I thought I read an interview with Pollard where he said that he wouldn't let Matador put the song on the album.
P.S. how did you find this out?

Hold On Hope is a little weak. I like the GBV version of Baba O'reilly better than The Who's.

Not including tracks from Isolation Drills on a purported "GBV Best Of" would be a shame.

I'd like to see Matador put out a b-sides Isolation Drills album actually.

Anyone know where I can get Isolation Drill demo stuff? I'd love to hear what it sounded like through the various stages of recording.

I've got the demos, and they sound very similar to the CD.

Do they contain any non-album tracks?

no, just north american vampires and another one, can't remember, that was released on the Glad Girls CD5. I've got the Do the Collpase demos too. in fact, I have pretty much 98% of the rare GBV recordings out there.
