Ban me. PLEASE.
Just one more topic to chat about with Marty. You know, Martin Mills. Whenever the "Boy from Beggars" (as I call him) and I get together for lunch I love talking about this sorta shit. He likes the 'behind the scenes' gossip as well.
Cheers!

I guess people like u just shouldn't have to be answered, but I just want to say there's a difference between communism and fascism... I am communist and proud to be, but I'm surely the exact inverse of a fascist still I don't seperate the white and the black in a manichean way just as you just did. Matador has the right to close its thread if it's their choice... I believe this choice to close the thread was a real good choice, because Cat Power doesn't have to be the subject of a polemic, as Gerard explained...
Bye bye

I know this isn't music related, but why on earth are you a communist? Few political systems have demonstrated their inability to administer a fair system of governance as often as communism.

Which is the problem with communism, it became known as a system of governance instead of a mode of economical life. It is helpful to make a distinction between communism and the Communist Party. There is a difference between communist theory and how some people practice it and how governments have historically utilized it.

I rather fancy myself as a Utopian.

P.S.
Not that this is worth my time, but trying to "one-up" me Gerard is, well, futile. *yawn*

Apart from small communes of people who voluntarily enter into an arrangement of mutual ownership and fairly distributed wealth, no government I know of has been able to implement communist theory successfully. Embrace the theories all you want. It makes for a poor system of governance. As far as I know, my marriage is the only arraignment that comes close to successfully realizing communist ideals.
And to keep this thread music related, let's agree that Cat Power is cool.

Yes futureman, it does make for a poor form of governance. That is the point. Not that there is supposed to be a "good" form.

I didn't mean to make a showcase about communism. The fact is you understand communism just as what Russians or Chinese governements just applied it. Communism is a state of mind based on sharing : "let's share wealth, not poverty".
I simply hate the system based on money and meritocracy, in which I am everyday a consumer before being a human being with thoughts and emotions... It doesn't mean I have the keys to build a perfect world. I just told my preference, and if english was my mother tongue, I should certainly give a better explaination. I am an Utopist too, but I hope someday, every human being will work in the same direction.

Unfortunately, the problem is wealth becomes poverty in a communist society. The very word itself becomes a misnomer when applied only because it takes away in order to give.
There are MANY great ideas....on paper. But I think what futureman is getting at is that it never quite pans out when implemented only because of the diversity of each individual mind in context of communism. Simply put, there's always going to be some dill-hole who takes advantage of whatever power is given to them--which, of course, would make the playing field uneven again which is what communism combats in the first place.
And, Cat Power has some really cool recordings.

Not to beat a dead horse back to life , but i think you two are still mixing communism and state communism. Historically, we've seen the latter take form. And, practically speaking, I do not see that there can be 'no diversity' in a classless society. But I don't consider myself a communist. I believe in voluntary collectivism and self-rule, under whatever banner.
