In a friendly barroom discussion last night, after about 400 Guiness', the idea of how many copies of You Are Free Cat Power has sold came up.
I say it is around 100, 000. The others all said it is much less than that.

Can you divulge how many units You Are Free has sold??

Anyone else here want to take a guess??

There is a quite large bar tab riding on this...

Thanks in advance :)

i read the figures in an article recently. Check stuff posted in the last month. (i can't remember anymore.) Your estimate sounds likely, tho. Might have been 80,000.... Dunno. It's here somewhere.

Thanks for your thoughts!

I looked around on the forum, but found no set figure amount.

I haven't seen anyone from Matador chiming in with a response so I will take that to mean my estimate is correct and I win the bar-tab war.

If, however, I am incorrect I feel it only decent that Patrick and/or Gerard buy me several dozen Guiness' at an East Village pub of their choosing to compensate me for their lack of response.

Thorn,

It's more than that. Considerably more worldwide.

We don't quote exact sales figures however.

Thanks for the reply, Patrick!

Wow, that's a lot of CD's to sell for a non-mainstream artist.
I'm really happy for Chan that she's done so well. Beides it meaning I win the bet because I had the highest estimate:)

Here's wishing Cat Power and Matador continued success!
