Which, IMO, doesn't say much. I can see how people would get into it, but I find his work in general to be plodding. I'll give him the first song -which had me hoping this new one would do me in- but I can barely sit through the rest of the disc.

the first song actually reminds of "landslide" a lot, but i dig it. i really like this new one. i miss the polyrhythms of 'michigan' but i prefer 'seven swans' as well. more concise, better songwriting ... excellent stuff.

But is Sufjan Stevens a Christian? I know he's on the Danielson label, and I also saw that he's participating in Calvin College's seminar on faith and writing.

In explination of why I care . . . as a Christian myself, I tend to listen to other Christian's lyrics with a different mindset. Also, Christianity is so misrepresented in popular music (Creed, DC Talk, etc . . .) that encountering artists like Stevens is encouraging to me.

Strange . . . I remember a day when David Robinson's and Orel Hershiser's athletic prowess was more vital to me due to their evangelical identity. Nowadays, all I want is Rasheed Wallace on my team.

I haven't read anything where he's confirmed or denied it, but all signs point to "yes."

the album is certainly heavily-laced with overt christianity. the best songs on the album are the most obviosuly religious ones, though, so more power to him.

Woo hoo! Finally, something that the three of us can agree on. I think the record is quite nice.

By the way Paul, save the BauHaus VHS tape for your kids. They'll thank you for it one day.
