can anyone recommend good free software for burning CD's? i've always used roxio easy CD creator, which came with my computer. despite my chronic issues with free HD space, it's generally done the job. but recently i seem to be ruining four blanks for every successful burn (case in point being a mix tonight), and i am starting to wonder if a new program would do me well.

I use EAC for burning CD's and for extraction. It's a great program and I always use it when trading bootlegs. You can get it at: http://www.etree.org/eac.html

Yeh, I like it... when I trade bootlegs it's always demanded that i burn EAC or DAO, and I don't know what DAO is, so I use EAC.
I like it because it lets me burn cd's and extract to .wav or mp3 and tells me what quality it came out at, alerts me to errors, saves track listings if I like and lets me add as much or as little space between tracks as I like.
There could be better software around, but I haven't tried it and EAC is free, which is always a plus.

I sued to use the new Real1 player til it started screwing up for me. other than that, a serialized MusicMatch.

If you're just burning audio CDs use iTunes. For anything else use Nero.

wiped the old Windows ME off the computer & put XP on there, had to get new CD burning software (couldn't just reinstall the "ez cd creator" i'd gotten used to) and i went ahead and got Nero on some recommendations -- is it just me or is it a bit confusing to do simple things with Nero?
it's almost as if it's "too powerful" if cd burning software can be that...too many options! or something.
downloading the million-pg manual hasn't helped... i'm sure it's good, it's just a bit weird.

i've had good results with feurio. along with the burning program, you can also edit track parameters, fade in/fade out, etc. you can download it for free at:

iTunes is ridiculously easy to use. It lacks a number of features found in other burners, but from the looks if it you've no use for those anyway.
