Got to the 9:30 club after being across the street at a new club called DC Nine. I was checking out a band called The Factory Incident, which features John "Stabb" Schroeder (ex-Government Issue) on vocals. Great post-punk stuff-check 'em out if you get a chance.
Only saw one song by The Hiss so can't really comment on them. Fiery Furnaces were next. They featured a female singer who was sometimes being back up by two keyboardists and a wild-man on drums. Pretty entertaining.
Then after a short wait, Mission Of Burma came on. Since I had to bail on their 2002 show in DC at the last minute, I was really excited to see them for the first time. They did not disappoint.
Even though there was a big crowd, I was able to get up to the front. They rocked. The new stuff fit in well with the old. I don't have a set list but here are some highlights:
Academy
Revolver
Forget
This is Not a Photograph
Learn How
Wounded World
Dirt
Peking Spring
Nicotine Bomb
The Setup
Great show. Hung out afterwards and got to chat with both Peter and Roger. Both were extremely gracious and Roger signed my new copy of "OnOffOn". Good times.
Also spotted Ian MacKaye and Amy (aka The Evens) and John Barry (original Government Issue guitarist) checking out the show. It was quite a night!
