The New Year (Ex-Bedheads, I think)--"The End is Near"
McClusky-"Difference Between Me and You Is That I'm Not on Fire" (loved Mclusky Do Dallas; I hear Steve Albini was involved with this latest project [if that matters])
The Hold Steady--I have one mp3 from this band.
Natural Dreamers--mentioned by vesper on another thread. Hey, if the Deerhoof guys are involved, I'll listen.

The Natural Dreamers are melodically akin to Deerhoof (I think that both guitarists are involved) but it is impov based. The songs aren't as focused and there isn't a singer, but neither of those caveats makes the album necessarily better or worse.

I have a promo copy of The Hold Steady that I have yet to hear. I'll post how it is after a listen or two.

i saw the hold steady open up for the shins last week and i thought they were pretty good. pretty similar to lifter puller, which was the lead singer's old band, but a little less punk. his speak/sing style is pretty unique and sets the tone - you either love it or hate it. not sure how well it works on the record but it's on my list to check out.
