i'm kinda wondering if she cancels a lot... i can't imagine being okay with letting fans down repeatedly..a friend of mine tried last year to attend a show in tucson and it was canceled last minute, and now again. it's disapointing to fans to be looking forward to a concert and then out of the blue have it canceled... i hope i get a chance to see her again and SOON!

She probably isn't ok with letting fans down. But then again if an artist can't play, that's just the way that it is. Sucks that you drove from phoenix. I've made that trip before. Pleasant driving experience.

All bands cancel shows at some point.

I think when Chan does it there tends to be more speculation....but I don't think she cancels any more than any other band/artist that has been touring for 8+ years and I don't recall her ever cancelling an entire tour..
Put "Tour Cancelled" into a google search and see what I mean....

I think Matador would have made an announcement if she was going to cancel her tour...and they haven't

What the fuck is going on with Chan? She looked like she was having a nervous breakdown at the San Diego show last saturday. I had seen her once before and it was one of the greatest concerts I'd ever seen, Last Saturday was a total wreckage of a show. I mean she went down in flames. She played maybe 7 songs over 2 hours. The rest of the time was spent taunting the audience and muttering to herself while looking extremly lost and depressed. Her poor band was trying to back her up the best that they could. Now I've been a Cat Power fan for years and I think she's one of the most talented musicians around but what the hell is going on?!!?!?!

Chan if you read this..... Take a vacation, kick off the shoes take some space if the whole scene is getting to you. It aint worth having a nervous breakdown.

Subject:_ My incompetent review of a Cat Power show
Hello group, I've been lurking around here for about a year and have
heard everyone's reviews of Cat Power shows and finally have
something to say about seeing her live.

I was floored. From my perspective she was totally "ON" tonight
(it's the first time I see her so I don't have anyting else to
compare it to). She played at the Casbah in San Diego, I just got
home from the show. I don't know how to write show reviews so I'll
just speak about what I think I saw. What happened was that she made
me want to cry. I know it must sound corny but she did. I am
definitely not the kind of person who is usually (or ever actually),
moved by a performance but she got to me. It was so damn amazing.
Her voice? It was so pure and beautiful. I was struck by the fact
that the voice you hear on her records is the same voice I heard
tonight. This girl sings with her heart, with confidence and power.
She pours herself and all of her experiences and emotions into
whatever she sings. From the first sound to come out of her mouth to
the last I was mezmerized. I know I'm rambling. The first words to
come out of her mouth actually were "tits out". She said it about 3
times. For some reason that put me in a good mood, not for some
perverted reason (or maybe because of that), but that was hilarious.
The girl is a comedian too. After that she began to sing some song
whose title I didn't know. But from there she began to show us why
she is considered an amazing artist by so many.

I don't have a set list and I didn't know all of the song names but
the one single moment when I knew I was seeing something beyond
special was when she began to sing try me by james brown. I don't
konw what happened but she sang that song with a gentle passion I
have never heard before. She blended some other songs into it also,
like these arms of mine and others but for the duration of that song
I was entranced. The band seemed loose and confident too, knowing
when to play every note and how to play it. How to build on her
singing. She sang and sang that song and I didn't want it to end.
During the song she climbed off the stage and made her way into the
audience. Scooting back, hunched over, facing the stage. she then
went up to random people and stood besides them and sang besides them
and on their faces was surprise and a smile. I know I wasn't the
only one to feel overwhelmed because many couples were hugging and
smiling and enjoying the moment.

Anyways, I know that that isn't much of a review but I would
recommend everyone to take the gamble and go to see her. I don't
think the setlist matters either. She is an artist. singing songs
she must know have an emotional impact others can relate to. Her own
songs or songs by others, it doesn't matter.

My main comment must be that she overhwlemed me with her purity and
honesty and passion. I know others there didn't see the same thing,
the place was more than half empty by the last song. People trickled
out steadily during the show (why? I can't imagine). Btw, the last
song she did was some simple rap song by some little girls from
Seattle called Swoosh. She was dancing like a geek and being silly
and that was a great way to end it.

Listening to her recordings, which are always powerful and beautiful,
does not compare to what I experienced tonight. Two words, haunting
and merzmerizing. I am so glad I went.

blah blah. Go see her!

Ahahaha!! That's great. I'm glad you had a great
experience. I was at the Casbah too last night, and
loved it. I've seen her several times now, and this
was my favorite show. the venue is small providing an
intimate experience and CHAN was having a blast! She
really enjoyed herself, did as she pleased, and
definitely showed us what a beautiful voice she has.
The highlight for me was her first solo song on piano,
which I didn't know, but her voice was heaven for me.

Oh I was at the same show. Most of the audience cleared out about halfway through. Chan reached mediocre at best while playing her material. Most of the time she rambled to the audience repeating herself and barely played any songs. She seemed to not give a fuck at all about what she was playing.

Now the Cat Power show I had seen before that one was one of the greatest musical experiences of my life. I still love her music sooo much but I was actually worried about her while watching the show last saturday. She seemed lost and burned out. The audience seemed thrilled that she walked through the crowd and sung in the middle of the crowd swaggering back and forth. They began to claw at her and rub her. What I saw last Saturday were theatrics not her talent shining through. I've seen her talent live and it was breath taking, that show was wreckage.

as far as "piling on her because it's the thing to do".....

That's the last thing I would want to do. I can Honestly tell you that I've been in love with Chan's music for years upon years. I was excited for days before that show. I couldn't stop talking about it. The next day I was filled with the most dissapointment I had ever felt waiting for a show. I've been a fan for years and that's why watching that show really got to me. But believe what you want, I just want to make sure Chan's ok.
