Do they have any value whatsoever? If ever a record was released on a 3" disc would you have anything to do with it?

the Papa M "Three Songs" CD is a 3", and it's one of the best things anyone has ever recorded. so yes, I'd have something to do with it.

Didn't Sigur Ros release an Ep/single on one of those?

they're dinky lookin'.
One of my friends bought a pack of 3" cdr's and passed around mini-mixes a couple years ago for Christmas. Something about a short mix (these max out at 21 mins) is much more personal than a long mix which is bound to have lulls.

I've got a bunch of 'em, myself. My favorites are Best Map by The Malarkies, Health & Efficiency by This Heat and Live! by MC Hellshit & DJ Carhouse (Otomo Yoshihide & Yamatsuka Eye).
Maybe this is a stupid question, but do they play in car stereos?

I think Bjork's boxset came with 4 or 5 of these.

no, because most car stereos have the slit-style slide-in CD thing, and can't really grab the 3" CDs. you need to have either a "spindle" style CD player (like a top-loading boombox where you actually spear the CD on a spindle) or a tray loader (which have an inner circle just for those CDs) like on a computer or most home stereos.

I thought they were fifteen minutes.
21 minutes. (http://www.altex.com/product_info.php?products_id=267)

I like those three inch discs cos, let's face it, I'm intimidated by twelve inch records and even seven inches.
I like them because they make me feel like a giant.

If you ever order a Hoegaarden beer, make sure you get the BIG glass. it has the opposite effect, making you feel like a shrinking person and all...

Somebody told me he got a 3" CD thing from some computer company as a promotional item (you know, you put it in the computer, and the information on the company plays itself out) and it got stuck in the indentation in the CD tray because it was so small. The only way for him to get it out was to unplug his computer and turn it upside down and have it fall out. Needless to say, he never used that company and has avoided 3" discs since then.

The first that pops to mind is the Boredoms' Super Roots 2. It was only available with the initial Japanese pressing of Chocolate Synthesizer and I've seen it go for plenty o' $$ on eBay.
