you know, this happened with the S+E redux as well:

I think "yeah, should be alright, I mean, I have the album and some of the singles already, but I *guess* I'll pick up the new thing at some point" and then the tracklist gets posted and I'm all bullshit and can't wait to get it the day it comes out.

totally awesome. I can't freakin wait.

I can't find the news update I thought it might be in, when is the release date again?

Susan Kirk

Will a teaser a MP3 be posted before the album's release?

will there be any free-b's if you pre order like a poster or ?

This tracklisting looks better than I could have ever imagined, I'm just going to stare at it for days.

The only 2 things I see wrong:

1- The Sutcliffe Catering Song from the same Peel Sessions has been omitted. If there were space issues, then I have no problem with it since it was later released as Easily Fooled.

2- Part of me was kind of hoping that they did "Silence Kit" with Gary, I always thought his drumming would have taken the song to another level of greatness.

Yeah, a concert would have been nice, but I don't really think the ones that are circulating from 94 are as good as the one on S&E: L&R.

I'm pretty pumped about hearing all of this stuff, I had NO IDEA that there was this much unheard material.

I guess now I've got a pretty good reason to finally get this album.

tinobeat

There's always been an abundance of very good reasons to buy this album. This deluxe edition sends it through the roof...

Crooked Rain x2 was the single album that sent me underground and spiraling into music obsession. until then it had all been Pearl Jam, Smashing Pumpkins, Led Zeppelin... dude rock. Then I heard CR,CR, and it was all over.

This is my punk rock savior.

Ladt

I guess as I don't have that much money at the moment value for money is an important factor in my buying choices- and that many songs has to be good value for money.

george
09-14-2004, 04:14 PM
hooray. i don't think it's a stretch to say that "crooked rain, crooked rain" was one of the best records that matador released in 94.

bcs
09-15-2004, 04:40 AM
Right. Maybe you're being sarcastic, but I don't think it's a stretch to say that CRCR is one of the two or three best records released by *any* label in the 1990s.

PLEASE dont leave off Sutcliffe Catering, its superb!!!

That "1994-09-15 The Palace, Hollywood, CA" is pretty awesome, esp the "late" set.

i've never heard a recording of it that isn't clipped off at the beginning, so it would be nice if it's included.

yeah- stuff up the cracks misses a tiny bit at the beginning. I did have a tape, in GREAT quality but by the time I came to digitize it was screwed. damn tape format.

i've just checked, in case I was mistaken, and indeed "Easily Fooled" is a totally different version. PLEASE release Sutcliffe Catering as well, somewhere!!!!

Jesper

This song will indeed be on the record (and indeed it is the same song as the later 'Easily Fooled' albeit a complete different recording/version).

The confusion probably hails from the fact that we listed the peel session from feb 94 as:

22. Brink of the Clouds
23. Orange Black (this is 'Sutcliffe...' but the title is obviously faulty as SM says "orange! black!" at the end of Brink of the Clouds...)
24. Tartar Martyr
25. Pueblo

...which is how it has appeared on bootlegs. The correct track listing, and order will instead be as follows:

22. Brink of the Clouds
23. Tartar Martyr
24. Pueblo Domain
25. The Sutcliffe Catering Song

Hope that clears stuff up.

another fun little thing is that we switched the instrumental "Strings of Nashville" to disc 2 and put the unreleased vocal version on disc 1 - there are fairly substantiated rumors to the fact that the vocal version in fact should have been on the 'Gold Soundz' single originally, and not the instrumental... however, this can and has been disputed... at any rate, some of you might notice this little detail, so here is the reason why we put it there... I think the sequence works better this way anyway

The Crooked Rain outtakes will be treated like the Dylan ’66 electric bootlegs: i.e., with intense pleasurable intensity.

October can't come soon enough...thank GAWD for the tucked-away mom-’n’-pop CD store in Brooklyn that'll have it the Saturday before the release date! I'm holdin' a close-friends-only CRCR Knob Creek-fueled-Brooklyn-lager-chased party that night in my apartment (landlord-approved) with various hard-to-locate musics that weekend Saturday!

Pavement = heaven

Malkmus = joy

I think Jesper got mixed up, because I know my Gold Soundz CD5 has vocals on "Strings of Nashville"

According to allmusic.com, the deluxe version of Crooked Rain Crooked Rain will be titled, "Crooked Rain Crooked Rain: L.A.'s Desert Origins." Can anyone at Matador confirm or deny this? I like the sound of that.

RE Strings of Nashville. SORRY, forget what I said!
there was some SM + me confusion on Friday where we both referred to KNEELING BUS as Strings of Nashville. To clarify, "Rug Rat" is in fact Kneeling Bus with vocals. And I will keep this song on disc two as previously listed. And the Instrumental of Strings of Nashville will stay where it is as well! so just forget the whole thing!

Just a confusing Friday night at the office that's all!

I was curious as to whether "Colorado" is perhaps "Anything Could Happen"? Only because they mention Colorado in that song.

nope, only because that was a Clean cover. you can hear PSOI/Spiral's studio take on it on the Falling Away CD5.

Patrick

Very soon.

But Ladt, since you're in the UK, you should be aware that Domino is releasing it there (on November 1st) and you can't preorder it from us.

I take it no one's releasing officially in Australia at the same time, so us Aussies will be able to order it from you guys??? S&E L&R just magically appeared on the shelves with no press months and months after its American release and as for Slow Century did it eber get released here. By my accounts its an all region disc so it would have caused no problems for releases in other territories yet to this day I have only ever seen it in one shop over here once.

Hi there,

Crooked Rain will be available on Matador from Remote Control in Australia. It will be imported copies from the US, so it might not be right on release date since this release is so down to the wire.

Crooked Rain will be available in Japan on P-Vine.

(Slanted Luxe was a different beast, because the rights outside of the US and Canada are still controlled by Big Cat, who did not release the deluxe version. For the subsequent records, the European rights are with Domino and the rest of the world with Matador, so all the deluxe versions will come out via Matador or its licensees outside of Europe.)

It's been a while since I have spent much time on these forums. I cannot remember if it was mentioned whether Wowee Zowee would be getting the deluxe treatment? Brighten the Corners??

Wow, can't wait for CRx2 deluxe!

Let's use that thread as the basis for further discussion - it has the most updated and accurate description of the tracks.
