I love the fact that little old school bars are on every corner in Milwaukee.

I've been to some famous German rest. downtown Minneapolis a couple of times, but only because my carnivore compatriots insisted on taking me there. You'll probably enjoy it.

the last time i was in milwaukee (may 2 years ago for the jicks pavement show) i was amazed that the city seemingly shut down at 4:30pm on a saturday. no cars, no people, nothing. eerie.

i can't remember either of the places we ate at, one was down the street from the blotz brewery, it was a decent bbq place. nothing great but i've had way worse. there was also a bar called mcgillacuddy's (sp?) that we visited because it seemed to have a slanted doorway. it was of the corner bar variety, nothing in there but a few regulars and me and the mrs.

please post if you find anything of note, we'll be back up there in 13 days.

Had some of the best steak I've ever had in Mpls... the "Golden Butter Knife Steak" at Murrays.

Downtown, very old-people vibe, like senior citizen. Expensive by midwest standards. But wondrous, wondrous steak.

Then there's Treehouse's or Trehus's store, and at least one other excellent LP store I visited a few years ago.

Milwaukee is TEH PLACE for records. Seriously, every time I've been there I've scored some magnificent hard to find LPs for cheap.

this was some good shit. definitely a cool supper club vibe, though pricey by any standard.

as well in minneapolis, i went to a crazy german restaurant, perhaps the one bitterfruit mentioned, where they shot snuff up your nose while you drank. talk about delirious. and then there was a bar called mayslacks, which served nice roast beef and onion sandwiches with garlic ladden horseradish. all very blury. oh, and the metrodome is just plain weird.

thanks for the recommendations.

The crazy snuff-shooting German bar is called Mario's Keller bar. It is in the basement of the Gasthof zur Gemütlichkeit resturant. I suggest bringing a lot of people and drinking a boot of beer. If you are here for Ocktober fest there is a tent beer hall set up in the parking lot. Good times.

2300 University Ave NE
Minneapolis, MN 55418

Treehouse Records used to be Oarfolkjokeopus Records. Oarfolk was where The Replacements demo found the hands of Terry Katzman. The rest is history. Treehouse is good, it is a local icon and I suggest checking it out. Don't expect to be blown away though.

For record shops, check out Let It Be in downtown Mpls.

Or The Electric Fetus

2010 4th Ave. S
Minneapolis, MN 55404

If I had to pick one, Let It Be would be it.

The good place to hang is called Uptown. Just ask around, people can point you in the right direction. Good bars and resturants. Just drive around, you can't go wrong.

If you want to catch a live show check this site out...

Good places to watch bands are:
400 Bar
Triple Rock Social Club
First Avenue
7th Street Entry
Big V's
Turf Club

Hope that helps. Mpls is beautiful in the fall. If you are into the nature thing, check out the lakes just outside Uptown.
