View Full Version : Will Wowee Zowee get the deluxe reissue treatment as well?
Is this planned for all of the pavement albums?
I have to say that the S&E luxe and reduxe is probably the best reissue I have ever seen or even heard of and the CRCR sounds just as awesome.
It's obvious that matador is full of music lovers, because reissues such as these are the sort of things that I think people who love special albums from defunct bands sit around and dream about.
It's almost like sports fans who play fantasy football - I remember sitting around in the mid 90s listening to stray slack and some other boots of unreleased pave-gems thinking "wow, that would be so awesome if this stuff got a proper release - I wonder if it ever will..." then coming up with ideas for fictional pavement releases and sequencing the track order in my head...
thanks matador!

Wowee Zowee is brilliant, Pavement's "White Album".
I hope to God they do a deluxe on this one. :)

I really love Wowee Zowee, to me its just as much fun as Brighten. I am all for Wowee Zowee 2. However, in a recent SM interview he said that he didn't think there would be enough extra material for a wowee zowee 2, but for Brighten there will be cause in Bighten's case there are tons of songs that are actually better than the original album.

I'm suprised no one els has mentioned this earlier, hopefully he's not talking about the great B-sides but unreleased stuff. If this is so .....wow who needs them to get back together.

c'mon. i'm sure there's a ton of stuff from wowee zowee. that unreleased studio outtake "strayfire" comes to mind...
If CR CR sells well enough, I'm sure we'll see Wowee Zowee SE. Even if there is a lack of extra studio material like SM says, they'd probably just include a live concert from that era to fill disc 2, like they did for Slanted & Enchanted.

I think he means that there are a lot of unreleased tunes, and how could you say that about Pavement : BLASTFUMY!
I love WZ, A good pave concert never hurt.
I vote for WZ2! Vote or die!
I'm all for reissues of everything pavement. a BTC reissue would be sweet.
A live show for a WZ reissue would be awesome. I like the 95 era shows, and there are a lot of shows to choose from, but who knows how many good qual sources there are. I would assume that the band/label gets a board tape from every show, but I could be wrong..
I never saw a bad pavement show.
I am still tyring to find boots of the 5 pavement shows I saw. I have only obtained the first one I ever saw.
The first time I saw them live was at Castaic Lake amphetheater just north of LA opening for Mudhoney and Sonic Youth in October of 1992 (the 26th I think). Kurt Cobain was there and came out and played an acoustic song between sets (the leadbelly tune). They were amazing. I had heard them previous to this and liked 'em, but after seeing the show I was in love.
Then it was 5.2.94 in minneapolis at first ave. Decent show, but dont remember it due to an evil girl and a lot of substances issues.
Next was was lollapalooza in july 95 in chicago at the new world amphetheater. Good show, but hot as hell and too short.
Then it was april of 1997 (27th I think) at mississippi nights in St Louis. That show fuckin rocked.
Finally it was in july of 99 at the troc in philly. decent.
I only have the 10/26/92 castaic show out of these i was at. I do have many other live pave shows though..... I would really LOVE to have some soundboard sourced 1995 shows. I've got a couple from 94 that are HQ and a couple from 92, 94 and 97 and a few from 99, but 95 seems underrepresented with SBD sourced shows....at least in my collection.
I have to get my shows organized, but once I do if anyone here is up for trading pavement shows I'd be into it.

I am really in need of some pave shows. I have a lot of Jicks, but not too many pave shows. Could you post a list of shows u have so I could see if you don't already have mine.

In addition to b-sdies and live shows, they could include 'Pacific Trim' in the wowee set. After all, they put 'watery domestic' in the SE Luxe and Redux.
I'm actually surprised no one has mentioned this yet.
Pacific Trim is amazing and not enough people have it.
Matador better get cracking on the wowee reissue though, since the original came out only a year or so after crooked rain.

So many great tunes from wowee zowee; it's no doubt my favorite pavement album. I agree that pacific trim is great too. If you have the 7", there's a great little pop tune called "I Love Perth" on it. It's hard to find though.

not that hard. In the beginning I thought the WZ 2 would never happen, but now, I believe it will be a great success.

Really? I thought like only 2000 were pressed or something. I haven't seen it on ebay. I always considered it one of the more rarer pavement releases.

what? It is not rare at all? Media wise it wasn't a success, but in many people's hearts [including SM's] WZ was a better album than Brighten. You can find the album anywhere, and on ebay I see it pop up all the time? - Usually the Double LP.

Yes, I was talking about the pacific trim vinyl. But what a sad world it would be if wowee zowee was hard to find.

Gotta go with "Grave Architecture" for greatest track, both for Wowee Zowee and best overall Pavement tune. To me, that song epitomizes everything Pavement is about.

Don't have it either, but I'm lucky enough to own the Japanese tour version EP of Shady Lane, which includes the entire Pacific Trim EP (plus some other great songs, like an alternate take on Stereo, Slowly Typed, Cherry Area, I love Perth and Birds in the Majik Industry).
But my recording session chronology knowledge isn't all that great... Should these extra songs belong to the WZ L&R version or the BTC one?
Oh, and how about great songs like Painted Soldiers and No More Kings? Would love to have those on CD.

all of these songs except for i love perth are b-sides to brighten the corners singles. i love perth is from the give it a day 7" which is wowee zowee era. there are great b-sides from wowee zowee as well which would fit well on to a bonus disc as well as the (rather rare) dancing with the elders 7" and, as mentioned, painted soldiers and no more kings.
come on, matador, we're waiting (nearly) patiently!
Oh, and how about great songs like Painted Soldiers and No More Kings? Would love to have those on CD. these are still quite available on both lp and cd format, and the respective records brain candy ost and school house rock! rocks are worth buying for the rest of the tracks on the compilations. they're cracking lps!

Actually I have read from numerous places that there is a apparently a crap load of b-sides from wowee zowee. This might make sense in a way, because if they were crankin' out so many songs that well, then I am sure they had like 30 total, and took the top top top which were 18 of them? Maybe, Maybe

it's hard to find a specific article about it. You have to just read Pave stuff then randomly come across it.

I don't know if anyone will know what i'm talking about, but a few years ago Rolling Stone did like a best 100 records of the 90s and WZ was pretty high up on the list, like in the top ten. But when RS originally reviewed the album in '95 they gave it a bad review.
Did I make this up? I swear I remember checking this out a few years back. Anyhow, sounds like something RS would do, they've got the poorest music tastes.
WZ is my favorite Pave. Pacific Trim is a great little EP. Don't have the vinyl, but I believe that I Love Perth wasn't on the US CD, but was on the foreign release. Not sure of this though. I Love Perth is definitely on the Shady Lane Japan Tour EP. Good stuff...worth the money I paid on ebay for it.

I have to admit I'm somewhat reluctant to purchase compilations just to own one specific song, but judging by some of the positive replies regarding these I might just check them out. Thanks!
By the way, any news on the WZ re-issue? If we keep up the 10-years-later schedual it should be coming out this year, right? Though I wouldn't mind a little longer, of course.

Just to add my voice to those clamouring for news on the WZ deluxe reissue: any word yet? :) I'm guessing it's more likely to be a 2006 release now, as we're nearly into October already, but if anyone from Matador could say for sure then that'd be great.

"stray fire," a bootleg studio version of which is circulating. sounds like a typical messy WZ song. quite good too.

Also Dancing With the Elders which was 1/2 of a split "7, and was actually the demo for We Dance... meaning there is a whole set of WZ-Era Malky demos to include!

Mother Mary / Serpentine Pad
