So I'm guessing this won't be sold as an "actual" CD through the Matador store?

Nope.

Possible physical release at some point in the future, probably with a different or extended track selection and a new mix, but this has not been decided by the band.

In the meantime, they wanted to get this out for the election.

This is a recent live show? I have a version of "Tremelo" from a radio broadcast from about '82, I think, which is awesome.

That still looks really cool.

Recorded this past August, in the same studio where they recorded 'ONoffON,' Q Division in Somerville, MA. But "live" in studio, before a small invited audience.

Also recorded at the same session were a cover of Pink Floyd's "Astronomy Domine" and a new song of Roger's called "13."

I always loved "Tremelo" and wished there was a recording with better sound quality than the one on "The Horrible Truth." About the song, Roger writes on the Burma site:

"Very early instrumental by Clint. The first tremelo song. We dropped it for a while, but brought it back towards the end of the band, where it showed up on Horrible Truth. It's a bitch to stay in pulse once I put the fuzz on."

Seeing them in Chicago this weekend.

this EP's gonna be tight.

"Astronomy Domine" is so good, and funny that this is the second Matador Oldster band covering it on an EP (the other being Soft Boys...)

keep 'em coming! lets have GbV throw one at us as a last hurrah!

;)

There's a bootleg of on WERS (?) or something like that with a pretty similar set where they play "Tremolo" to start out. I guess I always thought there was a studio version on Peking Spring which is the only disc I haven't got. But maybe this one's better. But for an era recording I don't this version can really be beat. Including what is, as far as I can tell, an uncharecteristic false-start on "That's How I Escaped My Certain Fate."

It was probably either Metrowave or Niteklub (dig the period names), WERS shows that recorded local bands live in studio. I would LOVE to get my hands on that boot. Any chance you could make me a copy?

Whoah tino, keep in mind that neither "Astronomy Domine" nor "13" will be on the iTunes release.

They may be included on a possible physical release next year. Unclear as yet.

Sure, I could make you a copy, though it may suffer some digital degradation. The CD is the WERS show and then an AWESOME show at CBGBs with the version of "1970" from "The Horrible Truth" preceded by a performance of "Dead Pool" (the only I've ever heard of). Or "Train." Don't rememeber which. Also a great version of "He Is She Is" which I think is different from the "Horrible Truth" version.

I would imagine you could also get a copy from Peter Prescott, whom I've heard is happy to share his wealth of Burma material.

EDIT: Yeah, the "Horrible Truth's" "He Is She Is" is from Boston.

Ah, I hate to say this, but it appears that the show I have does not have "Tremolo" as I had thought. It's one of two WERS shows that I downloaded about two years ago, one of which I burnt to a CD and another which was lost when my computer crashed.

whoa, as I typed that I actually found TWO tracks from that show I had lost, "Tremolo" (as fate would have it) and their cover of "Pancake House" by the Girls with their singer on vocals! Oh man, I was so pissed that I lost that, since "Pancake House" is so awesome and isn't on their album (or whatever it is I have on my computer). And indeed it says it's from Metrowave.

Wow, a Girls cover. With Daved Hild to boot. I need all of that, TSD.

I heard them do "Dead Pool" btw at some of the first reunion shows - I think maybe at Irving, but definitely at one of the two Paradise shows - completely amazing.

Two more new songs now exist, "Spider's Web" (Roger) and "Twice" (Clint) - they played the latter in Chicago the other night and it sounded terrific.

OH man, I'd love to see "Dead Pool" or "Train" performed live.

iTunes does NOT seem to identify the Snapshot EP as an exclusive release for date 11/02/2004 (or mention it yet in any other way).

Yep, they're having problems getting it up.

This may mean the release gets bumped to 11/9.

Just caught this...

That's too bad. I'd love to figure out a way to secure a MoB version of Astronomy...

In any case, that's a bummer that the iTunes EP might be delayed. Would have been nice for election day and whatnot.

It has (though it doesn't currently include "Astronomy Domine" - hope everyone picked up on that point).

Good stuff!

How the hell do you print jewel case artwork for this (other than the generic Title/Tracks thing). Any ideas?
