Wouldn't you say that we were kind of mislead when Matador said that CR,CR would include "The Great Lost Pavement Album"?
I'm sorry, but although there are a few great tracks on disc 2, it definitely is not an "album" by any means. Most of the songs from the Gary sessions are very incomplete sketches of songs, and the other songs beside that are really useless throwaways (except for a few).
I don't want to come off like I am bitching, I am very happy with this release, christ... the first disc is worth more than the price of admission to me. I'm just saying that I was expecting to hear an album when I popped in disc 2 and all I got was incomplete song sketches. The Peel Session is great though.
I don't know, maybe I am spolied because the S&E re-issue was almost all first rate material. I just think Matador should be a little more careful with the words the use to describe things.
With that aside, props to Matador for putting together a very generous re-issue.

There's at least twelve album worthy tracks on the second disc!

Most of them aren't even new! They are just demos of songs on CR, CR and Wowee Zowee!
I guess I would have been happier if those short instrumentals would have been real songs. "Colorado" isn't even anything!
That said, "All My Friends", "Hands off The Bayou", "Soiled Little Family" & "Fucking Righteous" are great songs.

Sorry if you feel misled, Steve. We thought this was way better value than the first deluxe issue, which was mostly live or stuff that had previously been released, whether officially or unofficially.
We were blown away. Maybe "great lost Pavement album" was an exaggeration, but maybe not. Definitely an album's worth of unreleased songs.
On the other hand, SM tells us that from 'Brighten The Corners' they have an entire album's worth of material that he feels is better than the studio album. We've never heard that - I guess we'll find out if we ever do it!

You HAVE to do it! See this reissue thing through until completion. I won't be satisfied until I pick up my Terror Twilight (Red Alert Dawn) in 2009!
We esp. need the Wowee Zowee reissue.

I can't believe this bitching!!! Yeeesh!
Matador, this customer is completely grateful and thankful for the CRCR reissue. I've already made my own "unreleased" Pavement album with the unheard studio tracks on CD2 that's been on constant play in my earbuds since I got the set last Saturday. I feel the era, and it is heavenly. All parties involved deserve a handshake, a backscratch, a tousle of the hair, and some shots.
Dude...start your own band and do it your way if you are disappointed....
I can't believe it - I mean this and the luxe and reduxe reissues are like a pavement fan's wet dream. Other bands fans only WISH for DELUXE-ASS sweet reissues of seminal albums such as these.
I have never even heard of a label releasing such cool stuff as a reissue, and on top of that, it's cheaper to purchase than many single CD releases.
I mean, you saw what was on it, you read the track list I am sure just like everyone else....I have numerous live and many versions of unreleased songs (i think I had all of the boots of unreleased studio material) and this still has many things I never heard before and still totally blows my mind...It's awesome...
So I don't know what you were expecting, but if this didn't quell your expectations I find it hard to imagine what would (I mean, this being reality and all)..
thanks matador!

To answer Stevethehouse's initial question: no. I don't feel misled because I always take marketing and advertising with a grain of salt. Plus, I've been listening to this disc every night for over a week and totally grooving on it. Even if most of the best stuff is from the original CR, CR and some of the B-sides, it's still filled with groovy tunes from my favorite band from the 90's that doesn't exist any longer.
Wait, are you telling me that hyperbole might have been used in the advertising of a product? SHOCKING!!!
I love this album, personally. I've been listening to it constantly since Tuesday. The 2nd disc is exactly what I'd expected: some unreleased gems, some alternate versions of songs I'd already heard, and some underdeveloped duds. I don't know why anyone would expect anything different from a collection of album outtakes.

No big deal. Like I said, I was spoiled by the S&E re-issue. This re-issue still offers a shitload of great songs.
(I am esp. a fan of Haunt You Down & Jam Kids)
beside S&E, Brighten The Corners is my favorite Pavement album, it is really really under rated in all regards.
To hear an additional album's worth of material would be insane.
I say we don't wait until the 10 year anniversarys, let's just get on that now!
