Who do you love that nobody seems to get?
My answer is The Doors.

what about all the 15 year olds that just finished reading the jim morrison biography?
actually i think the doors have some great songs. "when the music's over" + "roadhouse blues" especially.
yeah, yeah...
I'm speaking more about the music than the myth... and specifically the first album. I could talk about the various merits of their other albums (most of all L.A Woman), but for me it's all about the self titled debut. It's incredible.. the crystal ship is one the most beautiful songs I've heard.. the whole ablum flows beautifully and it just kicks ass.

I'm always a little surprised that more people here aren't into Superchunk.
Actually, Chapel Hill in general probably gets overlooked a little.
Show some love for the 'Chunk.
Yes The Doors....Morrison Hotel is very underated in my opinion....
They do have a fair share of clunkers
(3/4 of The Soft Parade, Riders on The Storm)
But there's a lot to like if you can get past JM's antics & sometimes bad poetry.
That's about my guiliest pleasure....maybe Fleetwood Mac as well.. but only Rumours really...
ok, I admit it, I read that biography when I was 15. So I'm not to be trusted. The seeds were planted.
Morrison Hotel is great. The track 'the soft parade' is quite well written lyrically, I think. The music for it is one of the greatest disasters of the 60's.
i think riders is quite beautiful. it gets overkilled these days on radio stations, destroying its charm.
I like Peter Green era fleetwood.

As far as old bands go, I totally agree about the doors. the legend of Jim fuckin Morrison totally outshines the fact that the other three guys were one of the hottest bands around. Though the "doors fan" sketch on Kids in the Hall is more than correct. Its a tough band to love.
Superchunk I could never get, but I always wonder why Archers of Loaf were forgotten so quickly after they broke up. I talk to these kids, and they're all "Archers of who?" Crooked Fingers is good and all... but come on folks.
My "band people hate on pure instinct but should really think twice about" is, and hear me out, folks,: Cake. That first !!! album is nothing more than a sped up Cake record with stupider lyrics, and all the kids went mad over it. I'm convinced that they just get written off for their singles and its a damn shame. Fashion Nugget, including the hit single ("The Distance"), is one hell of a record. "Frank Sinatra" is one of the greatest songs of the past 10 years, in my book.
Full disclosure: I haven't heard anything since the 3rd record, so I don't know how they're holding up, but those first 3 Cake records are pure gold, man.

I love all Fleetwood Mac pretty much, the Peter Green stuff, some of the intervening material ('Bare Trees'), and most certainly the Buckingham-Nicks trilogy. But the Mac have become a hipster cause in the last few years so it doesn't really count.
Who do I love that nobody seems to get... the Shoes? (Excepting Mark Ohe.)
A lot of people seem to take Minor Threat for granted or write 'em off, but to me they're one of the greatest bands of all time.

Well acorrding to the Biggest Dissapointments thread, I seem to be the only one who likes Pedro the Lion's "Achilles Heel" album from this year. You people are crazy! Did you even listen to the album- seems like a natural progression for the band from what my ears are hearing. I'd put it in my top 5 albums of the year.
If it's at all similar to all the other Pedro the Lion albums, I don't need to hear it to know it's boring.

and i like mudhoney. they are the greatest fun band. they should have their own television show like the monkees. they would be perfect for something similar to that. i actually do think way too much about how awesome it would be if they did have a show just like the monkees and stuff.

I've got a work colleague who tells me that he wants his son to listen to Creed for similar reasons. Well, for what it's worth, Petra (unlike most of their CCM peers) were very in-tune with what was going on in the world of regular rock music at the time. They could have easily held their own with Journey and Loverboy if they dropped the preachy themes and went for mainstream radio. Chicago even went after Greg Volz to fill the slot Peter Cetera left vacant, but Volz didn't want to work secularly.
"Rose Colored Stained Glass Windows" is probably the best song Journey/Kansas/Boston/Loverboy never recorded.

While I agree with Paul on the hard to find thing (although let's be reasonable, how many of the "Best Songs of 2004" did Paul pay for? I mean, there's ways around shit being outta print), I think the fact that the Volcano Suns were an offshoot of a far more acclaimed band, and were hardly the premier act on Homestead, SST or Touch & Go probably has to do with their second-tier status then/forgottenness now. Although who else can say they were on those three labels?

I can't say that I like "Kill Uncle" a lot, but I probably prefer it to either "Southpaw Grammar" or "Maladjusted."
I really like Malkmus's first solo record, though I have to admit that I haven't listened to "Pig Lib" since shortly after I bought it.
I've already listed some of my guilty pleasures on this forum in the past, but here are a few more.
--Ben Folds Five, though my collection is hardly complete
--The only Pedro the Lion album I really, really LIKE is "Achilles Heel," though a lot of the folks on this board regard it as one of the major disappointments of 2004
--As a (former/amateur) bassist, I like some of Cake's bass lines, though I don't own any of their albums
Oh, and top this: recently, I've been revisiting (and really enjoying) Al Stewart's "Year of the Cat" LP.
the first few eminem albums are great, I think.

I still maintain that Pearl Jam is one of the most underrated bands in rock history. If Ten had never blown up the way that it did, people might actually listen to Vitalogy, No Code, or Yield and give them credit for making a string of outstanding albums, which they did. Sure, the last two were eh, but..
I'll second the Cake love too. :)

Eddie Vedder should consider participating in the "things to put on a t-shirt" thread on the FMBB rather than putting out records. Ten was the last good record he ever made.

Not necessarily bands, but some songs that I liked:
Christina Aguilera: Come on Over. Very catchy little tune.

Dexter Freebish: Leaving Town. Another radio friendly mainstream band that never made it. What happened to these guys?

I think that's the thing that has kept coldplay in OK graces with me. I never listen to the radio so I wouldn't know whether a song's been played to death or not. The special lady is really into them, so we have both of the albums, and whenever I put them on I enjoy it enough. a little schlocky, and the guy's voice isn't totally my cup of tea, but as far as MOR mainstream rock goes, you can definitely do a lot worse than "Yellow" or "Clocks."
I agree that yellow and clocks are good songs. the irony is I don't listen to the radio either, but I still hear it everywhere I go...
