The new issue of Ugly Things is out, with articles on the Misunderstood (part 3 of a 3-part series), The Matadors (from Czechoslovakia), the Creatures, The Speakers, Plastic Bertrand, the Dirty Blues Band, Ace Kefford (of the Move), Juicy Lucy, Brian Jones, the Popes and about fifty gazillion others. Very much worth your $6.95.

Just read a scary article in the Times magazine about "agents," regular people who recommend products, services etc. to their friends, families, strangers in supermarkets etc. all for no compensation.

That's right, your best friend could be working for Al Fresco Sausages and you had no idea.

Why do they do this? Even the marketing companies that hire them don't have a clue. Some of them supposedly do it to be "cool" or get free stuff, which is why people join rock band street teams... but there's not much cool about mass-produced garlic-chicken sausages. Some of the folks interviewed by the Times actually say it helped them bust out of their shells, get out there and make an impression on the world.

Now now. Take a step back and really think about that statement before being rash.

I think I'm gonna have to mailorder that Ugly Things, as its not in any of the stores around here, even Twisted Village. I'm intrigued. I love me a good perfect bound book-zine. Speaking of which, its high time for a new Sound Collector...

Not even Twisted Village? That's really surprising - ask Wayne and Kate to order it for you. They can get it from Matador Direct!

I'm surprised Newbury doesn't have it... or even Tower.

TSD, you will not want to miss Johan's article "The Valhalla of Amateurism: Obscure '70s Punk 45s: Primitive Shit Music."

Excellent though sadly briefer than his prior articles on similar topics in UT.

Kate mostly holds down the back of the house these days, as I haven't seen here there in months and months. I'll tell 'em you sent me

I'm not going to tell people aboot music I like anymore. I'm not getting compensated, and only the record labels benefit from me doing so.

What about Corduroy, aren't they a store or affiliated with a store. Also, Missing Link in Melbourne adverstise in the Mag too. Surely it might be easier to get it from them?
Also, what might be the highlight of the issue is the Wild Cherries article. I'm looking forward to Half a Cow's Purple Hearts/Wild Cherries reissue.

Dave

PS The Misunderstood story isn't dead yet. There will be ANOTHER instalment in the next issue.
