View Full Version : New Year's Resolution

I can't think of one New Year's resolution that I have ever actually made or, if made, kept. I'm thinking that this year might possibly be the "alter ego" to that outcome though.

This year has been a very different year. WOW. 2004.

I don't have any set up amount of words that can explain what this/these resolutions are.

I was just wandering, what are your resolutions?

To refrain from weeping when the thought of no more GBV enters my mind.

The only one I ever kept was to stop eating meat. A week from now, it will be 15 years.

Of course, I probably kept that one as it was not a resolution but rather a "what the heck" that started right at the new year and took.

That's really cool. Wow, fifteen years.

I haven't eaten red meat for about 2-3 years now.
I've been a vegetarian for a year. I stopped eating meat for Lent and haven't eaten it since.

Do you just not eat meat, or are you vegan also?

No, I'm not a vegan. I still eat eggs (they'll never be meat) and cheese (you don't have to kill the animal to get the milk out). I do not eat fish or chicken, though, despite constant inquiries as to whether I do and claims that other vegetarians do (they're not, in my opinion).

Technically, cheese made with animal based enzymes or rennet comes from the lining of calves which can only be ascertained from killing the animal. Rennet is what causes milk to become cheese. It's the main coagulant in the process. You can buy cheese made with plant rennet that uses enzymes from vegetable sources and you can also buy soy cheese. If not described specifically, you can also look for kosher cheese which also uses non-animal enzymes to process cheese. There is no taste difference at all between the two.

Oh, and I agree -- fish are not vegetables. We need a Matador ATL approved dining thread.

OK, rennets are where I draw a fuzzy line. I don't go out of my way to find rennet-less cheese though I really should. I also still buy leather shoes for work/dress-up and I have a leather jacket and wallet. The jacket was my boyfriend's and he was gonna get rid of it so I took it. I've not found synthetic leather shoes that are comfortable but I do seek out canvas shoes whenever I need new sneakers and I've found some good canvas belts at Target. I've tried to find a good, non-leather wallet but have not had any luck yet (I'm way too particular, I suppose).

If you think Bob Pollard will stop pimpin' it OG style, then you should look back at the wildly popular FCS catalog.

He's just gonna spit game on the solo tip for a while. If there's not a DVD about the Electro-frying Conclusion Tour and a solo record for sale by the end of 2006/2007, then you can call me an naysayer.

Hope is all we have.

Check out the Tillamook Cheddar kosher cheese and Applegate Farms Muenster made w/ veg rennet at the Whole Foods on Briarcliff. Applegate also makes other varieties as well. If you ask the people behind the cheese counter at Whole Foods, they typically have a list of rennet-free cheeses. I assume you live out in that area somewhere. No?

Rennet is a difficult line to draw for a vegetarian. My motto is this: If I have the ability to choose, then I choose to use animal rennet-free stuff. If I can't control it, then such is life and I just deal with it.

I just bought a car with leather seats. It's hard to be a baller/shot caller in vinyl or cloth. I try to buy cloth shoes and the like. NY has a great place on Allen St. called Moo Shoes (http://www.mooshoes.com/) that also takes phone orders. Great stuff actually. Payless Shoes also has a ton of leather-free semi-stylish shoes. For work, I just keep going back to the cobbler with some old shoes that I will never throw away. For pimpin,' I choose from a selection of Chucks that always attract the honeys.

Most of the time, if I'm eating anything with cheese, I'm at a restaurant. The only cheese I buy at the store is Kroger Fat Free Swiss, Philadelphia Cream Cheese and Kraft Parmesan. I'll check next time I'm at Whole Foods, though. I do go to the one at Briarcliff and Lavista occasionally, plus a friend of mine works there.

I'd go to Payless but Starr Jones frightens me.

I am a gentle flower, who flinches at the thought of firearms. Grinning, happy buddha music lover, without a violent tendency or malignant psychosis. With each beer I drink I grow happier, with each GBV tuneful dissonance spinning in my skull.

I would curl up and stop breathing before gunning down a Fading Captain like Uncle Bob, or the stalwart comrades who surround him.

I'm guided by good voices, not evil ones... I hope.

for some reason, reading that, about beer and stuff, reminded me of a visit I once had to the dentist.

I was 12 and had to get a cavitity filled. They put one of those huge nose things on you, the ones that slowly make you drowsy and unable to feel pain.

The doctor started drilling in my teeth and I swear I heard the theme song to Sonic the Hedgehog.

That was also the first and LAST time I was ever high. Hah, and it was legal

Thank God, my dentist is very free with the nitrous. I have way too much anxiety to deal even with fillings while sober. How he puts up with my incoherent babbling and giggling is another matter.
