Someone gave me a copy of their new CD last night and I just listened to it all the way through. Dunno what to think of it yet-- What became of the likely lads has a good sound to it though. I've never heard anything special about the band before last night.
edit: I can definitely hear the clash somewhere in there... And strangely, some Rancid - Out Come The Wolves. Dunno what other influences to hear from it. Maybe some Op. Ivy?

haha fair enough. Just dug out that CD from the closet this morning. Been so long since i've listened to it. Maxwell Murder was the first bass tab I ever played all the way through.

Wasn't that the album where Rancid pretended they, not Offspring, were the ones that sold a bunch of albums on Epitaph and wanted to show they weren't gonna sign with the A&R men chasing them down?

I have both Libertines albums and i've come to this conclusion-
their music is way too slow and these type of songs (basic Rockabilly) need speed.
There are some good points to both albums but for the most part both are like listening to an early Clash 45 on 33 speed (not a good thing).

All of the press in the U.K. was so annoying. Who cares about Pete Doherty's problems? He has got to be the most uninteresting "troubled rock star" ever.

Yeah, its taken a few listens through but in the end they're just another band with a copycat sound.

note to hype bands: wait until you're actually really fucking huge too develop band-ruining and trendy drug problems. Otherwise you're just that band who coulda been but were too fucked up to care.
