If that's correct, some fukkerz may want to steal their gear again so we can get another decent album.

wait, are you suggesting that NYCG&F was a decent album?!

or rather, more decent than the two after it?

Ha! Yeah, I fucked that one up by misreading tino's post to say that the equipment was stolen after that dreadful record. All of that is to say, I'm looking forward to something more in the vein of Murray St. or Sonic Nurse, not the SYR series.

Here's the thing. I'm not hating on Christians, and I'm not even hating on this Michael Combs fella... but, like the guy who pointed me to this link said, I feel that there's a sect of the church these days who believe that if you aren't American and Christian, you're somehow a lesser species. But the misguided lyrical direction of the song is only half the fun. Michael Combs sings like the bastard lovechild of Joe Cocker and Rolf the Dog from the Muppets.

NYC Ghosts & Flowers is a great album and I do like it more than Murray Street (which I really like as well) and about 100 times better than Sonic Nurse (At this point I think it should be really be a "special circumstance" to warrent a double album from Sonic Youth and Sonic Nurse certainly wasn't one. It would have been a killer single LP though.) I don't really understand the non-love for NYCG&F.

SYR series has been rather good if you ask me and I'm looking forward to the new volume (Live at Anthology Film Archives w/Tim Barnes).

cause pitchfork hated it so everyone else has to.

*rolls eyes*

I thought Pitchfork's 0.0 score was ridiculous and had absolutely nothing to do with the music, considering the article was just a rant about Jim O'Rourke selling out to NYC. fuck that.

I also, totally independently, heard the album and saw the songs performed live and decided I didn't like it.

shocking!

From another board:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hello

It is with a lot of grief and weariness that I announce that tonite’s DMBQ and friends show @ Club Exit has been cancelled following a tragic car accident today.

DMBQ’s van rolled from I-95 in Delaware en route from Baltimore to Brooklyn this afternoon. All members of the band have been hospitalized, as well as Michelle Cable from Panache Magazine and booking, who has been managing their tour.

Mana “China” Nishiura did not survive the accident. China was DMBQ’s drummer, as well as the drummer in Shonen Knife. China will be missed.

Michelle Cable is conscious following surgery for a head injury. The other members of DMBQ are stable but sedated and are expected to recover.

That’s all the information I have.

None of the bands tonite nor I felt up to a rock show following the news.

We are tentatively planning to continue with tomorrow’s show @ Kingsland Tavern as a benefit to cover DMBQ’s travel and medical expenses. If the bands and I decide we can’t go through with the show, I’ll send out a cancellation.

Thank you for you support and your understanding.

Todd

Of course it does poorly in the ratings when viewers can never be sure if, and even when, it's gonna be on, goddamnit! A fellow fan thought she had missed some episodes when I lent her a tape of the last one previous to this week and I assured her that, no, she had not, it was merely preempted for an entire month.

same thing happened to Futurama. I loved that show and every time I turned on Fox at 7:30 on a sunday in the fall, Football would be on. and instead of knocking their whole schedule back a half hour, they'd just start playing the episode 15-20 minutes in, so you could see the end of the awesome episode you just missed.

what idiots...

Just can't stand them, or Kiss for that matter. Please don't compare Aerosmith and Van Halen. I've hated VH since I was younger than you. :) Seriously, I called a radio station when "You Really Got Me" was a hit to ask who it was. I then told the DJ that I'd be sure to never buy anything by them and I've stood by that declaration. Kiss, on the other hand, recorded a lot of great songs and are great showmen but their quality hit the skids long before Aerosmith's.

Of course, none of them sound like Pavement (haven't heard Apples in Stereo, to the best of my knowledge).

lukas, honestly, the 70's rock phobia has got to go. Without that stuff you'd have nothing to listen to. I know "indie rock" is totally tits and the awesome stuff and all that, but Aerosmith is of a long tradition that shares something with bands like Led Zeppelin, by association The Yardbirds, by association The Kinks, by association The Apples in Stereo. It all connects and it all makes sense. Listen to Dave. Aerosmith have lost the plot more than most bands on the planet, but when they were at their prime, they were something else. and that something is not something to be shunned.

You listen to rock music if you listen to Apples and Pave and New Pornographers, and the whole history of it is rich with amazing music, even the totally popular acts.

Aside from Neutral Milk Hotel, Olivia Tremor Control, and Bablicon, most of the Elephant 6 collective produced material that's just medicore-ly rehashed versions of old popular rock like the Beach Boys and The Kinks and others.

Aw c'mon-The 1st Van Halen Album beats anything in Kiss' catalogue.Sorry, I've always hated 'em and nothing is gonna change that. I've heard most of the first VH album and it has two songs I kinda like ("Jamie's Cryin'" and "Ain't Talkin' 'bout Love") vs. many Kiss songs I dig.

Kiss has got Eddie and the boys beat with their appearance on the Paul Lynde Halloween Special (I just saw this over Thanksgiving)Ha! I saw it when it was on the first time.

Don't you mean the Kinks?Nope. VH's first hit was a cover of The Kinks song and I hated it. The original, on the other hand, is great but I did hear the VH version first. I knew The Kinks at that point, though, 'cause I'd seen them on SNL and used to hear songs from Sleepwalker, and, of course, "Lola," on the radio sometimes.

I hated VH as a child/teen/college student, but unbeknownst to me at the time, it was a product of Sammy Hagar, super-saccharine "Right Now," and album titles like OU812. Once I started listening to the early stuff, I really got on the bandwagon. In fact, "D.O.A." off of Van Halen II has been on heavy rotation lately.

Hagar hate is probably too predictable and trite, but it's oh so valid.

Paul

Man, I love DLR-era VH. Maybe even enough to put them in my top 5 favorite bands of all time. But, as much as it pains me to admit, Eddie's best album guitar-wise is OU812... there's some unbelievable playing on there.

I still have a few high school and college notebooks full of band logos and whatnot. The high school ones are all metal as I didn't get into punk rock until my senior year and that was just The Damned and Dead Kennedys (this was 1981). I bought all the early Dischord records and Black Flag records during the summer before I headed to college so my college notebooks are mostly full of hardcore logos. There are a handful of drawings but all silly stuff, no punk rockers beating up longhairs. :D :D

I would add The Music Tapes as an exception too. The Gerbils are really good too.
