if i thought it would be as good as "american water" this would literally be the best news ever. it's still cool though.

I have a feeling it could be just as good if not better... the original three of DB, SM and BN? plus Mike Fellows? and others?
its shapin up to be the best one yet, in theory...

I think you meant "as good as 'Bright Flight'"

you know, its been three or four fucking years, and I still haven't heard Bright Flight...
I just kept forgetting to buy it. Unfortunately I just bled money this weekend, so I need to curtail the shopping a little...

American Water shits all over Bright Flight. BF was a hugely disappointing album compared to the perfection of AW.
Silver Jews ain't Silver Jews without Malkmus.

Bright Flight doesn't even compare to American Water! Malkmus is definitely what drives the band to the new level, and with the addition of Bob Nastanovich and Steve West, I see nothing but good things in the future from the Silver Jews. I'm excited :D

Bob Nastanovich is a gimmick. I can't see him adding a damn thing to the new album. What's he going to do? Beat on a cowbell and wear a sardonic grin?

whoa there, cowboy! lets not be rash...
He'll probably play drums on some songs, maybe some spirited backups, and bring a general sense of awesome to the whole thing.
How anyone could underestimate the importance of Bob on a recording is beyond me. I ♥ Bob!!!

Wasn't he the only drummer on Starlite Walker.
Bobby N is the man.

02-22-2005, 11:38 AM
as I recall, westy also drummed on SW as well... but I'd have to look to be sure.
but yeah, Bobby N. is the OG Silver Jews drummer, not to be reckoned with.

I appreciate the novelty of Bob. But c'mon, that's all he brings. And my understanding is that the novelty is confined to the live shows. I don't see the studio albums being any better or worse because of Bob.
You know the jubilant vibe you get from any recording that Bob's participated in? That's all Bob, man. Berman and SM are fucking stiffs and it shows when Bob's not around.

s'true. He adds a je ne sais quoi...
Obviously its more pronounced live, but I sincerely believe that he forces the "talent" to have more fun.. not to say he isn't "talent" himself, but he's never the featured one.

I have to admit I'm not into Bright Flight either. Like Terror Twilight, I think it's way overproduced. It sounds too slick, and I don't think the songs are very good, but I love the first song, Tennessee, and Let's Not And Say We Did.
Natural Bridge and American Water are a tie for my favorite jews album. Starlight Walker is a close second, and for the record, I wanna say that I definitely prefer Malkmus and Bob as members, although I'm glad he made Natural Bridge without them, 'cos I think that record is perfect and something that he needed to make without them. In the future though, I say definitely keep SM and Bob in the band.

Joe Pernice was one of the studio musicians for the original, scrapped sessions for the Natural Bridge.

Cool. Who is Joe pernice? Anything to do with the Pernice Brothers? I remember reading an interview w/ bob and he said that he and SM were recording the natural bridge with big bad dave, but he told them he wanted to do it without them and it bummed out Bob. That was a long sentence.

Joe Pernice would be the man who sings and writes all the Pernice Brothers songs.

If its any consolation, the total awesomeness that is the Pacific Trim EP came from SM, Bobby, and Westy being stranded in the studio after Berman ditched the sessions...
that's how I know the story, at least.

what> have you ever read any interviews or seen slow century?
Bob became a factor in the studio since WZ, maybe not a large or one but he did leave a very important impression when it came to playfulness.
Do not say SM is a stiff... first solo album [cough].
Bob definitely brings something to the table when it comes to creative mood though, he is not a gimmick. Futureman you are insane in the membrane!

um, yeah, proof that he's kind of a stiff. Don't get me wrong, I really like the album, but its not nearly as relaxed and flowing as any Pave records or even Pig Lib, which is waaay looser.

And thank God for Bob's invaluable contributions to American Water. Oh wait...
I confess I'm needling you guys. I'm just not convinced that BN is as essential to the SJ as he was to Pavement. Again, the band seemed to get by just fine without him in American Water. If he was an essential contributor to those sessions, then I'll gladly confess the error. I am sure he's an awesome fella. I just think he's decoration.

It's not like the SJ need him to contribute in the least bit. I just think it'll be interesting to see what they will sound like with the help of Nastanovich. His involvement just might give the new album a little polish so to speak.

this is the awesomest non-argument ever! anyway, yeah, American Water is a definite exception to the "Bob is what makes it all awesome" rule...
Instead of thinking of him as decoration, think of him as the milliliter of hot sauce it takes to make the chili just perfect. its not much, but its not the same without...
I could be projecting, of course...

apropo to nothing, i went to high school with vick's younger brother, marcus, who is a dick. michael graduated a year before i got there (with my sister, actually), but when he was drafted to the falcons we had "michael vick day." it was ridiculous.
Lukas

Is his brother any good? I heard he’s alright; he probably is a dick seeing how Michael is getting the attention because he has non human abilities, and all. Mike is supposed to be very kind and soft spoken though, which is ice compared to people like RANDY MOSS [NOW A RAIDER????].
What do you mean by ridiculous? Good or useless?
I have a Q? – Do the big name college guys receive proper schooling? This might come off as a bit mean and maybe it is, but Vick doesn’t come off as being very educated English wise? Do the schools veto academics in exchange for an all-star athlete?

i'm not a very reliable gauge for anything football, but i wasn't impressed with him when i saw him play (before i actually saw michael vick play). he wasn't bad, but his clout in the school had everything to do with people wanting a signed football and nothing to do with him. clueless bastard.
it was ridiculous in the sense that they stopped everything so we could watch him sit on the auditorium stage and listen to teachers and coaches wax poetic about his time in highschool. he seemed about as bored as us.
