i'm curious to know ... how many of you would call yourselves big sports fans? i find that my friends who share my obsession with music are either equally obsessive about sports or not into them at all. doesn't seem to be much middle ground.

personally, i'm a pretty huge baseball fan - which makes this time of year an annual highlight, right up there with october. i live and die with the yankees, but keep close track of it all. (fantasy baseball will do that to you.)

I'm big on hockey. With no NHL, I've gotten back into basketball. March Madness is always a must watch for me as well, and I enjoy some cricket now and then.

I hate American football like I hate pubic lice.

i get really into football during the first quarter and the last two minutes. who i'm rooting for depends on who i'm around and how into it they are. (for the past three years it has been the eagles, my roommate's team.)

i inadvertently follow golf cos my dad is such a fan.

I eat, sleep, live and breathe football (both college and pro), but have nothing more than a passing interest in any other sport.

I was actually a baseball fan until the strike, but since then it's all been about the money and the huge biceps. Blech!

Damn, I was thinking of posting about sports yesterday, in light of the Sixers swiping C-Webb from Sacramento (I know Webber is a born loser, but he is the best player Iverson has ever had).

Big sports fan for the following:

Football: Arizona Cardinals (aka "The Cursed"). Also follow the Eagles b/c of peer pressure.
Hockey: Flyers
Basketball: Sixers
Baseball: Don't follow any one team, but love the Red Sox-Yankees rivalry.

Also follow:

Tour de France each summer.
World Cup every four years.

I'm a fairweather sports fan. I don't follow it much, unless the people around me are. I used to live with big basketball fans, so I watched and followed tons of it, but then I moved out and couldn't bring myself to care. Same with football. Season before this last one, my ladyfriend watched every sunday and monday, and I did too, and knew all about the teams and the players and would have even passed off as a real fan, but then this year we just forgot to start watching.

this year it was hard to be a passing fan in boston, what with the pats and the sox. It was very strange, having boston go from the perennial loser to becoming that annoying city where every team wins...

I'm a fairly rabid sports fan, especially the minor leagues. I've had two half-season tickets to the nearby AHL hockey team for 4 seasons now, and I once had a weekend plan for the local Double-A baseball team, but it got to be too much. I also have a moderate collection of game-worn hockey and baseball jerseys.

BIG FOOTBALL + HOCKEY FAN

I enjoy watching basketball, and am sorta into baseball at times, but seeing as the expos are no longer with us I think I won't keep up with it anymore.

My teams :

Hockey - Of course the HABS, it's gonna be great if they do come back, I believe once hockey does comes back the origianl teams will kick ass! BRING BACK THE DON!

Football -
NFL - Falcons
CFL - ALOUETTES [proud season ticket holder]
COLLEGE - NEBRASKA [did you hear where crouch is and what he is playing, that's a real football player for you!]

BASKETBALL : Any team that doesn't include LA except for the clippers.

P.S I have won every single season of fantasy b-ball that I have participated in.

We've gone to Monster Trucks at the Georgia Dome every January since 1994 but that's it really.

I tried liking baseball many years ago when I had a crush on a boy who lived for baseball but I found when the next season rolled around that my taste for it had completely evaporated.

Baseball

On the other hand, Baseball or the Boy? sounds like a good album title for a BritPop band.

I too love hockey, mostly since that's what sport I played growing up... I also love football, especially now with the Steeelers great run this year.

I gave up baseball until I moved to Pittsburgh. Now, I spent my spring and summer weekends at PNC Park, taking in a game and a few Yuenglings. Great ballpark...

Jalen is a putz, if he played to the level excepted of him when the raps first acquired him it would be a different story, but unfortunately, it's not.

They should make an award to counter 'most improved' player. How about, 'the largest rip off'. Plus he complains. Actually the raps should get rid off their players who complain. Look what happened when they had players who complained:

Lost Tracy- [thanks Vince, ya okay there nice cuz]
We received a dead Rose who is playing like a blind man with rearranged furniture, and who insists in receiving more playing time over players who are trying their hardest and are actually doing well.

What the Raptors should do is trade Mr. Rose for a high draft pick and a solid defensive player, if they do that then they could possibly be in business. Unless they the mess up there draft pick which they have only managed to avoid 4 times thus far.

Jalen is a putz? Did you watch the game today?

He SAVED the game for Toronto, who were down four points during the last couple of minutes and came back to win by six. There's a reason they call the guy Captain Crunch. There's also a reason he's widely regarded as the heart and soul of the team. Did you see the way he dived on the ball today, during the final few seconds, to get the timeout and Toronto possession? The game was pretty much wrapped up by then, but he did it anyway. Pure soul.

Yes, he's got a huge contract, but the past month or so, you'd be hard pressed to find a fan in Toronto who doesn't think he's been earning every penny. Apart from being a natural leader, he's really stepped up his game. Did you catch that last game against New Jersey? I mean, seriously, "playing like a blind man?" Man, are we talking about the same guy? Unless we're talking exclusively about his defence, then I have a hard time believing we are.

Today on the radio, some guy called in after the win and said, "I hope Jalen retires in Toronto." I couldn't agree more. Look, I agree he isn't perfect, but dude, come on. Give credit where credit is due.

Lukas

I agree he has stepped up his game RECENTLY. He is just the flavor of the month; soon he will suffer some high ankle sprain and be back to where he was. He has only been playing well for a month, what happened to all the games leading up to this point? He played like crap until now, and I will give crap where crap is due.
Look at the Raptors record [24 - 32] if he had been playing as inspired as he is now the whole season the win column would be way up. One huge element in a great player’s game is consistency, and moonshiner my boy - Jalen Rose is anything but consistent.

I thought Chris Bosh was the man in Toronto these days.

I guess I'll also post my own sports fan pedigree. I'm a fan of all sports, but my personal favorites to play are soccer and basketball, and as a spectator I follow baseball closely. I'm a Los Angeles native, so I love my Lakers and my Dodgers. I tend to follow National team level soccer because of the lack of good soccer broadcast here in America, and I root for the USA.

I obsessively follow the Dodgers and all Pepperdine University athletic teams. I love basketball (college and pro), like football (college and pro), and am indifferent to hockey (college and pro, field and ice).

OK, now I understand where that band name idea came from.

Hmm, I guess bitterfruit beat me to that conclusion. Or perhaps the band name gestated here and then made it to the other thread? I've been off the boards too long on my travels.

And I don't know why nobody has mentioned it:
