Let's hope that people that sign up actually follow through. I don't mean to imply that you folks wouldn't actually follow through, it's just that in the last mixtrade I ended up with only 2 cds, and one of them pretty mediocre.
In any case, sign me up! Will this one work like the emotionlotion.com system (6 randomized people per group)? Should we send our contact info to Paul?

i would think/hope that everyone would follow through, especially with the relative lack of anonymity here compared to that other trade.
either way, i'm in.

I got three of the five but one is coming from overseas and he says he sent it . . .
I'd be willing to participate but I spent so much time on the last one that I'd rather just make dubs of it, if that's OK.

How indie do people expect the mixes to be? The stuff on my mixes that's performed by white males tends to be pretty straightforward. I'd like to do this, but from looking at the listening pile thread, I get the idea that a lot of the regulars here would be a bit dissapointed with one of my mixes.
For instance, would a lot of people here be dissapointed if they received the tracklist below? No big whoop if they would. I'd just rather not participate if that's the case.
1. some wierd sin- iggy pop 2. tighten up- archie bell and the drells 3. get up off our knees- the housemartins 4. talkin' bear mountain picnic massacre blues- bob dylan 5. nyc cops- the strokes 6. get off my cloud- the rolling stones 7. big time sensuality– bjork 8. supernatural- siouxsie and the banshees 9. the trouble i've been looking for- the magnetic fields 10. single girl- rita and sakura 11. tatooed love boys- the pretenders 12. never click– medicine 13. lovesick blues- hank williams 14. live at pj's- the beastie boys 15. superfreaky memories– luna 16. i think i'm in love (chemical brothers mix)– spiritualized 17. dreams burn down– ride 18. afraid- david bowie 19. tears of my tracks- billy bragg 20. better git it in your soul- charles mingus 21. it's such a good feeling- fred rogers

Hey man, I like this mix. Tighten up by archie bell and the drells is a great song by the way.
But seriously, I think we should get this started. I'd like to propose two things:
1: We send our email addresses and contact info to Paul.
2: Since the pool would probably be smaller, we limit groups to four people (randomly created by Paul), hence, we would send out and receive 3 mixes. I'm a bit short on funds anyways.
Any other suggestions?
Sure, I'll collect all the infos and set up the groups. 4 to a group sounds very reasonable.
So, that said, sign-up cutoff will be Sunday, March 20th. Then you'll have until Friday, April 1st to make and mail your mixes.
Just send me a PM through the board with your name, email addres and full mailing address if you want to participate.
Is this just an american mainland thing, or can I participate?
if so I could put in a lot of killer undergound australian bands that international ears are unlikely to have the opportunity to otherwise hear.

Since I didn't participate in the mixtrade from the other website, I'm not sure exactly how this might work. If there are four people to a group, will you make one mix for the group, and send a copy to each of the other three in your group, receiving three different mixes in return?

Does anyone know how to burn a CD without gaps (or with shorter gaps) between the tracks?
Can this be done on standard cd burning programs (Windows Media or Roxio)?
If not, can someone point me in the direction of free, easily downloadable software that will do it?
Thanks. I'm trying to butt-end "Up With People" and this bitchin' "Bright Eyes" track for Tino.

Roxio has an option to "burn all at once" (or something like that). Check it when you're getting ready to burn, after you've created your project, and it will leave out the gaps (it will also go through all your discs and pre-record the tracks before beginning to burn to the destination disc). I discovered this feature quite by accident recently and I've been using the dang thing for two or three years (though not on a regular basis).

Thanks for the tip. I use WMP, but I have Roxio as well, so maybe I will give it a try. Does the "burn at once" option take out gaps between every track?
In other words, is it possible to remove the gap between one or two tracks, but leaving the gap between the other tracks.

I think Pawnbroker's talking about crossfading songs. That's something that neither Roxio nor WMP will do automatically (Nero will, but it usually sounds like crap).
If you really want to have a disc where the songs crossfade, you're going to have to get a sound editing program and do that manually.

If you really want to have a disc where the songs crossfade, you're going to have to get a sound editing program and do that manually. Roxio automatically inserts two seconds of silence between each track when making a mix CD unless you choose the "burn all at once" option. There's an option for cross fading but only with the expanded version and I'm cheap enough to use just what came free with my computer.

Actually, I was planning on visiting each member of group three personally to play acoustic covers of each of the songs intended for my mix.
By the way, I will use only the chords I know well (G, C, D), regardless of the key of the original.
Paul/Mr. HCI: Actually, Mr. HCI had it right: I was thinking more of a near "butt-end" or splice edit rather than crossfading (which would be cool, too). Looks like I will give Roxio a spin tonight.
