The 'Prisoners Of Love' 2-CD and 3-CD retrospective is in stores tomorrow (or today if you're in the UK or Europe).
This is one of the packages we're proudest to have put together - just fantastic music from a fantastic band, in one of our new-style deluxe packages, especially the 3-CD set (even if it isn't a gatefold digi, sorry JS!)
Anyway, we'll have something very special to accompany the release going up on the YLT section of the site later today or tomorrow... keep checking back.

I'll vouch for its totally-awesomeness...
I've had a hard time keeping it out of my stereo for the past week or so.
there'll be a nice review courtesy of yours truly in this week's issue of Boston's The Weekly Dig, fwiw...

haha, I'm sure I'll love it when it finally gets here even if it's not a digi-pak!

Its really so awesome.
I've gotta say, though.. Byron Coley's "liner notes"? not sure what to make of it, other than Byron being psyched about being able to get away with being "Byron Coley".
very minor quibble though. Its really so awesome. A wonderful testament to the awesomeness of YLT.

this had better come in tomorrow. why in the world would it take the CD a week to get here? have I mentioned how much I love InSound lately?
I've been listening to the Sounds of the Sounds of Science lately to tide me over.

yeah, the liner notes on the pavement reissues had me hoping for something just as sprawling here. but minor quibbles indeed, especially when the sequencing is so great.

It is a fantastic set but couldn't they/Georgia have included a single song from their debut album? It feels incomplete without a representative from RIDE THE TIGER. "The Pain Of Pain", say, would have been nice.

"The River of Water," which kicks off Disc 2, is from Ride the Tiger...

It's a bonus track added to the CD release; it's not from the original debut album (and certainly doesn't date from those sessions).

I got the 3CD on Tuesday.
It cost around $36 CAN which is a tad expensive since the local store here marks it up wayyyy high but anyway, I wanted it asap so I didn't want to shop around and I didn't want to buy it online since online is always my last resort.
Totally worth it though. The flow is perfect. Whoever put it together (Matador or YLT or both) did a superb job.

did anyone read the Pitchfork review of this?
I'm usually not one to get bothered by CD reviews but it was so badly written.
my god.

oh cool, thanks! rereading it when it actually came out, it comes across as a little less enthusiastic than I'd hoped, but I still think it'll get the curious out there to buy the thing. Its hard writing reviews of retrospectives. Either you play the asshole who says "of *course* everyone knows how great Yo La Tengo is and should obviously already own a lot, this is nothing new, bla bla bla", or you can assume that the people who already know and love YLT will appreciate it and don't need anyone telling them about it, and really explain it to the newbies...
I did the latter, and I think it sounds a hair clinical in retrospect, but whatevs.
here's the review (http://www.weeklydig.com/index.cfm/fuseaction/Article.view/issueID/ec919e1c-2fd6-4a66-8272-84a7f7c49d7c/articleID/20ff5373-2219-4893-9fa2-0a7fc1c476b7/nodeID/5666324c-2898-4bdc-a362-4afcac799fcd), btw...

I have never understood why Pitchfork is given such weight in the world of online music reviews. Reviews vary greatly in quality, and for the most part tend to read like the works of a high school newpaper music critic who, although gifted, does not seem to truly grasp the relative importance of the artist/work in the grand scheme of things, and is just beginning to really get a feel for the overall history and vocabulary of rock music. Mind you, I don't expect or even want reviews from someone with a phd in music theory or music history, but I do not like feeling like my time has been wasted. I have given up on turning to Pitchfork as a reliable guide to judge whether I should buy something. I read the review you mention and was again left feeling as if I had just wasted my time. If I had never heard of YLT, I would have no idea whether I should buy the disc. As a fan, I just felt frustrated and bothered.
