I’ve been going to see Laura play live for a few years now, and the Jazz Café appearance on Wednesday night (01/06/05) lived up to all expectations. As always, an honest, intimate & hypnotising performance. Its great that new tracks which Laura started playing live last year ‘14th St’, ‘Poor Ellen Smith’ & ‘Khaki & Corduroy ‘ have made it on the new album. ‘K & C’ in particular made the hairs on the back of my kneck stand up, along with her performance of ‘Not The Tremblin Kind’s ‘The Whiskey Makes You Sweeter’. Skeeter Davis, George Jones & Lucinda Williams tracks were also excellent additions into the set.

A big thank-you to Laura for a moving & emotional tribute to John Peel both during her encore on Wednesday night & back in her ‘Radio Thrift Shop’s October tribute show. (You can still hear this along with Laura’s other weekly radio show archive at http://wfmu.org/playlists/RT2004). There was a lot a very good tributes to John following his passing, but I would suggest that any JP listeners amongst you listen to Laura’s show.

Looking forward to some of the other gigs this year- a great excuse to get to Amsterdam for a few days. Great Stuff.

Reading the other excellent messages, I realise I’m preaching to the converted –buts its to nice to catch up with fellow Laura/Thrift Shop fans.

There's one in the archives where Laura chats to various artists, and they play live - 25th October 2003. I sat there enraptured for 3 hours. The internet is a wonderful place for Laura fans - she's gonna be around for ever.

I'm trying to avoid songs from the new album now - June 20th is going to be a great day.

By the way, I'm extremely tempted to go to York the night before the Manchester gig - the smaller more intimate concerts are the ones I prefer. Think I'll have to take the week off work.
