Television have no bad albums. They have no great albums either, though.

I listened to Marquee Moon awhile back and remembered thinking how wholly unremarkable it was compared to how much praise it gets now.

Umm, whatever. Television have 2 albums, and they have 2 great albums.

The first album to get is 'Marquee Moon' and the second album is 'Adventure.'

Then you can get 'Live at the Waldorf.' And then you're - totally - done.

I'm assuming that the "Little Johnny Jewel" 45 is compiled onto one of these albums. I'm not responsible for whatever happens in the CD age.

What is that, a reunion album? I don't have time for that shit (aside from shilling for the MoB reunion of course)

You never heard it/heard about it?!

It's pretty much one of the only reunion albums I've ever heard that makes a good case for the reunion itself. (MoB too, of course)

I have a "hole" in my current music knowledge from 1990-1994. During that period I was living in the UK and listening to / learning about classical music on CD exclusively. It's an odd gap for me!

Oh, so when people make reference to MC Hammer, you don't know what or who they're talking about, huh? Lucky you, man.

How can anyone think that Marquee Moon isn't remarkable? There's never been another album like it, before or since. Adventure's pretty good too, but Marquee Moon is fucking perfect.

Marquee Moon is a masterpiece.

I heard a Tom Verlaine solo track and I liked it.

Saw them the day after my fifteenth birthday!

"Days," off of Adventure, is one of my favorite songs. You can't go wrong with either of the first two albums, so you might as well proceed chronologically.

Yup, I'm just like, "MC who?"

It sounds surprisingly like Coyote-era Yo La Tengo.

Geez you people are all on wrong drugs or something (Except Elijah and PA). Marquee Moon is an absolutely fantastic record, and Elijah is 1005 correct. No other record sounds like it. Also I'd add that most of the stuff written about it has been wrong in some way or another and almost any band that people have said "sounds like Television" doesn't sound anything like them.
In terms of what to buy you need the new Rhino reissue of MM quick fast and in a hurry. If you buy vinyl it was reissued by the 4 Men With Beards label, but I'd still say you need the CD because it does have the single version of "Little Johhny Jewel."
Adventure isn't as good, but it is still a great record so you'll want that too.
The Live At The Waldorf record PA mentioned is rather essential too. In fact I can't belive that 1) it never came out until now. 2) that Elektra/Rhino only put it out through Rhino Handmade. A record that good is hard to deny, unless no one ever sees or hears it. If it's still available get it right away while you still can.
I'd also recommend buying the Roir Dbl CD/DBL LP The Blow Up. Live stuff of varrying quality, but it's got the moves. If your damaged by the records this will do you well.
The "reunion" record is good and it makes quite a case for bands to go ahead and reunite, but I'd never suggest that you start there.

Dave

PS Just the other day PA flaunting his early 90's ignorance by wearing these crazy yellow silk MC Hammer pants. I said to him, "Patrick, can I touch your MC Hammer pants" thinking I was making a funny ass joke, but he was all "MC Hammer??"

I hesitated buying it direct from RhinoHandmade.com when it was released as it probably would've been around $25 with tax and shipping and they were starting to sell through other outlets at significantly lower prices but it went fast, fast, fast and I missed out, out, out. :(

television is overhyped, wannabe junkie, classic-rock-record-shop-owner shite. saying you like television shows your lack of taste or any basic knowledge of music for that matter.

the guitar inter-play on the marquee moon album is some of the tightest and most interesting rock I've heard.
