. . . get no love around here. :(

The Getty Address is an absolutely amazing album, IMO (not that the previous three and Dave's solo album weren't great, mind you).

So, am I alone in digging this stuff or are DP an unknown quantity in these parts or what?

I tried listening to whichever album had the drawing of the nude man on the cover a few times but could never get into it.

A mixture of keening vocals, cut-up chamber music (all self composed), soul, opera, indie rock, etc. Here's a bunch of sound clips from all the DP releases (but none from leader Dave Longstreth's wonderful, pre-DP solo album The Graceful Fallen Mango):

I picked up a promo copy of "The Getty Address" for a dollar at Criminal today at their annual sidewalk sale. It's R&B for nerds! I love it. They're not afraid to lay down the kick drums either.

Edit: By the way, did you buy an "Ode To LA" single. I saw it in your listeining pile recently, but I can't seem to find it.

I spent $25 at Criminal this morning. $5 for a Hello Kitty lunch box for next Christmas for my neice the HK fan, $2 for an OutKast DVD and $18 on 18 CDs that looked either interesting or were by bands I'd actually heard of. The only one I've listened to so far is Dark-Noize-Recordings presents The First Trance Opera of the World but it's not what I was hoping for (techno beats with operatic arias) but just plain old technoy stuff. It's not bad but I doubt I'll ever spin it again.

I bought the "Ode to L.A." 10" from www.HMV.co.uk but they already have it listed as no longer available.

It's not even listed at Amazon. What's on it?

Thanks for the DP reco by the way. I'm digging it.

The b-side is a cover of Hank Sr.'s "I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry." It's pretty good but probably my least favorite of all their b-sides. It's supposedly limited to 2000 copies but the number on mine is in the 2000 range. I saw some folks listing it at www.MusicStack.com recently (similar to GEMM.com).

Glad you like the DP CD!

The Graceful Fallen Mango is stunning. I saw Dave Longstreth play in a basement years ago and he gave me a copy afterwards. Really strange and beautiful. I saw him later as Dirty Projectors and it didn't work for me as much for some reason (probably more my mental state that night), but I got Slaves Graves and Ballads, and that's tremendous as well.

insanely talented kid.

This (http://www.westernvinyl.com/letter%20to%20don%20henley.doc) is pretty fascinating. It reiterates my need to associate an artist’s beliefs with the art.
