Well, it wasn't in the church basement, it was in the church itself. Anyway, this was my first Cat Power show and I really enjoyed it. Chan didn't pull any (I don't think) of the "stage antics" that I've heard about. She seemed like she was in a pretty good mood (c'mon, that bear joke was kind of funny). In my personal opinion, I think she and the band sounded great. I loved the set she did by herself at the piano. It was worth the show delay and not getting home until 2:00am on a sunday night (yeah, well, technically mon. morning...) Very nice.

By the way, anyone care to comment on those opening acts???? Between Gamelon's weird animal-suited guy stroking a bloody plastic baby on the ground + the masked "choir" of dress wearing men and women and Entrance (yeah, i'm not even going to comment on him) I convinced myself that I must've done some kind of awful, second-rate drug before the show, what the hell??

yes cat power was lovely.
i actually met chan before the show and before she went
onstage, i assisted her up from her spot on the floor where
she watched those awful opening acts.
particulary the guy with guitar who i walked out on when he
played with devandre barnhardt in january.
perhaps that why chan put on such a great show.
she knew she owed it to us!!!
i shot some pix so i will see who is interested in them.
and how about a big hand for sean who runs R5 productions.
he did everything for that show.
a very interesting venue and well behaved crowd.
except for the stoopid girl who tried to get people not to
clap and hoot when chan first appeared.
most artists enjoyed a warm, welcoming reception.
so freaky frizzed hair girls should not try to command and control
what they have no biz-ness attempting.
a really nice alternative to the oscars.
thank you, chan!!!

Entrance sucked. He opened for Cat Power and the shows were delayed 2 hours. It's one thing to like/dislike his music but when the show is delayed and the opener plays a looong set and says "ok two more songs" and proceeds to play 2 10 minute songs AND then one more short one, well...he sucks. As for r5, well this was my first time seeing one of their productions and while chan was great, it was such a poor job handling the delay. if they had told the openers to go screw and made an announcemnt, it would've worked...no need to waste fans time, especially when the venue doesnt serve beer

well crusher, you could have left.
people were looking for tix out side the show.
also, you could have left the venue for a beer or water.
how many places let you re-enter the venue for the show?
all that matters is the performance.
and cat power was all that.
i prefer a delay to what i had heard were usual antics like
chan being too unfocused or whatever.
so to me it proves that most people are too impatient to roll
with the punches.
i really think we should have laughed/booed entrance offstage.
obviously, he thought he was really the shit.
i think a lot of kids today think they know how things should be.
well i say sit the fuck down and shut your whiny trap.
rock and roll music is passionate and real art doesn't subscribe
to petty rules or expectations.

ps. life is seldom fair. you're lucky show wasn't cancelled.
R5 sent an email to apologize and explain.
besides, what else did you have to do, view the oscars?

I had a great fucking time. My friend and I didn't stop laughing until Chan came on. I had a headache from laughing so hard. I quite enjoyed the gorilla and when I just couldn't take Entrance any longer, we went out and bought some liquor and Kit-Kats and a homeless man proposed marriage to me. A fine evening.

I have to say that I was disappointed with the sound. I could hardly hear Chan's vocals and when she stepped down to play the piano, she disappeared from view for many of us. I had a fun night though, even though I didn't get home until 3 am and had to pay for it dearly on Monday.

I thought it was very cool of R5 to send out an email. No run of the mill show company would have been so gracious. Any production team that allows people to bring in Chinese food and liquor to a show is fine by me.

well,
#1 my tickets were at will call..not sure how to scalp those, especially when you need the buyers ID to get past the door.

#2 i aint no kid...30+ and i've been to 100s of shows. never seen this degree of mismangement. but then again i dont live in philly, perhaps this is par for the course in that town.

#3 all r5 had to do was make an announcement about the delay and it would've been just fine

hey, no big deal...just some wasted time for a few hundred folks. main issue is the wasted time couldve been much less.

I thought the show was horrible. My friends and I degraded ourselves for about an half an hour asking too-cool philly kids for tickets. Then on to the bad opening bands. After that Chan and her bad cover band(who by the way had some of the worst on-stage banter I've ever seen....it made me embarassed) Finally Chan by herself which was half decent at best. Not to mention I hate the church(not in a religious way), it's hot and there's no beer. Well at least not for the audience.

..and the philly kids were too cool..huh?..or not cool enough? ..go to a bar & hang out there all night if you need a drink that bad... It's good people out there still try to present things in different light, but some people are never satisfied..oh well opinions are like assholes, everybody has them..

soot- it's not that we need a drink that bad... it's just nice to have one and listen to music sometimes....as exhibited by the bands themselves....
