I don't know what it is, but there's something with her and the music that stirs up a lot of emotions in me. She's like an angel descend from the skies to make heavenlike music.

She almost makes me belive in a god.

No, rest assured I do not think its a bad thing. I just find it humorous that people fawn over Chan like she is this sex symbol pop star. There are plenty of reasons Chan is great but none of them have to do with her looks...would those who made the comments believe in a God if she were ugly?

There is a fine line between a more romantic or classical beauty and a modern sex appeal. While I do think Chan is attractive (in her many different styles), what makes her unique from millions of attractive women is the aura that surrounds mentioning her name. It can carry the soft peace or quiet torment, and THAT is what is truly beautiful. Britney Spears has all the appeal of a Barbie doll. That gets some people off, and that's OK, if it makes them happy. I can stare at a picture of Chan and be made happy, like staring at a picture of a lush garden. You look at a picture of Britney Spears, and think about Pepsi and latex. Good on their own, it isn't quite the same thing.

Mostly when I see Chan, see her voice more than her. She delivers emotion on a platter. In a way, Chan's powerfully revealing emotions are much more attractive to me than Britney's sexy latex poses, and they are similar things in some ways.

I wouldn't say everything about her is beautiful, though. After all, I certainly don't know her personally. In fact, a lot of her appeal is her imperfection.

If she were perfect, I would be a lot less interested in her, and that is pretty honest right there. I love the sparse and broken music she does, stripping off the complexity and precision.

Obviously message boards aren't the best places to use sarcasm. I don't like Britney Spears, nor do I find her particularly sexy. I also wasn't trying to draw any parallels between Chan and Britney, but between the reactions of MrTMan and the hordes of horny boy Britney fans. I understand the difference between beauty and sex appeal...but I don't understand what either of these things have to do with music.

Hey now if a guy thinks that Chan is hot, what is wrong with that? She is hot, and she is talented. The combination of the two almost make a person believe in God again.

Ms. Spears on the other hand is just hot and has no talent, like a stripper but less intelligent. Now if you were fawning over her, then something might be wrong. And besides Chan is in her thirties, it is not like she is 17 (I'm sure there is a point there somewhere). In conclusion, all women are beautiful and everytime I see one I nearly believe in God again. Now if I could just talk to them. Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

I've been listening to her music for 3 years, and had no idea what she looked like... until tonight when I saw those videos on the Matador site.

The videos were great, but didn't add anything to her music. She is also absolutely gorgeous, and that doesn't add anything either. I'd love to see her live show... I've fallen in temporary love with many a female singer.

The thing is, that from the first time I heard Cat Power, I fell in love with her, not as a person, but in the way she are in the songs. I didn't even, as many others of you here, know how she actually looked. The thing was just that I could really relate to her in the songs. And this thing about the beuty it's more of a abstract thing than that I would just like here looks. I'm just fashinated by her as some kind of a fictionlike character, as an artist I guess and the emotions she express really get's under my skin. I'm not obsessed with her looks or her as a person (I don't know her, so how could I?), I'm obsessed with the feeling I get listening to her songs.
