A few that immediately come to mind.

Anything by The Sundays
Breeders-Last Splash
Soundgarden-Superunknown
(in fact, just about anything from the 90's grunge-era)

Pearl Jams' Ten, Vs, Vitalogy and No Code.
And of course Dirty by Sonic Youth. I see them almost everywhere used.

I've been seeing phil collins - serious hits live a lot lately.

I think the only thing here so far I've ever seen is Monster. I think I once found a dozen or so copies at a giant group yard sale in upstate New York.

Common finds for me:

Unwound
Silkworm

I once found a brand new sealed, yet out of print, Martin Mull comedy album from the 70s at a used CD store for a dollar. it was and is pretty much the best deal I ever got in the history of the world.

actually, I was in a few used stores today and I didn't see 'serious hits live' once...it seems I'm full of shite.

I almost always see Model 91 by Christmas Decorations, a one-time Kranky band, in *all* the used bins of indie-oriented shops I go to. Seems people bought it cos it was a new Kranky band, and then realized even Kranky'll release shit from time to time...

holy shit, i fell for the trap a couple months ago. i bought that christmas decorations cd out of a used bin cos it was on kranky, and man it sucks.

d00ds, your chances of picking a good Kranky cd you've never heard are pretty slim. They'll put out any old crappy band, it seems.

i really wanted to get defensive, but that's completely true.

Is Jessica Baliff any good? I see a CD by her every once in a while, and I think about buying it only because of Kranky.

I bought one of her records (in a used bin) and it didn't do anything for me.

She's got a nice voice, but a nice voice does not a good album make.

someone said it already, but r.e.m.'s monster is a MUST in every used bin. usually multiple copies.

i'll add the amps' pacer to the list too.

I see Stay Loaded by Motocaster in used bins all the time. It's a real damn shame as that's probably my favorite album of 1994 and I still listen to it regularly.

I saw Motocaster on a bill with the Fastbacks in 1995. They weren't too bad, so when I saw a used copy of "Stay Loaded" later in the year, I bought it. I didn't keep it for very long, though. Maybe the copy I had is one of the ones that you keep seeing... :D

Mr. HCI, you'd probably know this-- didn't they change their name to Motocaster just a year or two before, from something else?

REM have been omnipresent in the s/h racks for as long as I can remember.

Worked in a record store for a while about ten years ago and used to see Spiritualized's "Fucked Up Inside" come in regularly - you could pick it up for about £4.
There's a s/h shop in Manchester flogging it for £60 now. Can't abide that carry on.
