how do these work? more specifically:
1. do the artists get paid at all? do they simply donate their songs and forego the typical payment they'd recieve with each album sold?
2. if they don't accept payment, is the money they would have earned per album sold therefore a tax detuctable charitable donation on their part?
3. for the labels/organizations who put these out, do they donate all money after they recoup losses to the organization, and if so, how do they prove they have donated the amount they have advertised/promised?

In regards to C, do you mean how do they prove to the consumer? I don't think that's something a consumer can worry about. I'm sure all these things are documented, though, so you could look it up if you suspected something were awry.

I was thinking more how they could prove it to the artists who participated in the compilation.
