new broadcast
new deerhoof
new DJ koze
new sigur ros
(i think) none are out yet, naturally. not sure what's surfaced and what hasn't. except the sigur ros, which sounds like it's quite good.
oh and the new fiery furnaces of course, though i'm sure that's a no. very keen on that one.
I saw Sigur Ros play several of the songs live last wednesday, and they sounded very, very good...

I think the new Deerhoof was actually out a bit ago (as in, in stores), unless you're referring to another release. The new Broadcast has definitely made the rounds a bit, I've heard nothing but great things. I'm trying to wait until it comes out, but I'm tempted.
A couple of years ago I saw Sigur Ros and they were already playing some stuff from the new release (I assume), and more recently I've listened to a very good AUD recording from their recent Euro tour. I agree that the new stuff sounds really good.

i'm thinking of 'the runners four,' which i think is out in sept or oct. i think you're thinking of 'green cosmos,' though i haven't heard that one either.

No drums except for the first song, so its a bit different. The first song could totally have been on Haha Sound, but the rest of it is a bunch spacier. I like it a ton.

wow. i did not know that was in the cards.
the drums were my fave part of 'haha sound' (and the live show) but i could still see it working w/o em. can't wait to hear it.

Paul's favorite album of 2003 was the Yeah Yeah Yeahs!

^^Children, children....

The first time I encountered Broadcast they opened for Sea and Cake (and blew them off the stage), and their drummer was probably the best part. I was then disappointed a bit by 'The Noise...', since it obviously wasn't the same guy. I had to wait until 'Ha Ha Sound' to get a record with any of that flavour on it. However, it was excellent but still not the same exactly. I found out later that they'd gone through three drummers in a relatively short space of time, at least two of which were great. I guess that's my story.... oh, and 'Extended Play Two' may have that first drummer on it, it's really good, I'll have to dig it out and check some time.
I've broken down and am d/l'ing the new one. I figure I may end up waiting on the vinyl anyway.
Paul's favorite album of 2003 was the Yeah Yeah Yeahs! And I still listen to it and, given my 2003 list to do all over, would make the same pick. What was yr 2003 favorite?
You know I love you, troy.

i think i went with the rapture in '03. it was the only option at the time, but i suspect i'd do it differently now.
And I still listen to it and, given my 2003 list to do all over, would make the same pick. .
mine too. i'd stick with it as well.

i picked the rapture in 2003, but would put YYYs over it at this point. i don't really know what else i would pick now. angels of light probably.

I'm going to back this up. I believe I heard one of their new songs on kexp.org not too long ago, and all I can say about it is that I recognized it as being Sigur Ros. Nothing else about the song stood out or made me want to hear it again.

No, that's not what I meant. And I'm not even condeming the song; I'm just saying I really don't care about it.

Speaking of the SJ, has anyone revised their previously negative assessment? I've heard 'Punks in the Beerlight,' and thought it was fine (as in OK).
What about the new Holopaw?

for almost a month, yeah. it's wildly uneven, but had it's moments. he should have cut out every song where he sings in Spanish though.

ah, of course. it's kinda odd catching up on a month all at once.
i saw him sing one of those spanish songs + enjoyed it, though some of his songs sounded pretty different live.
