let me tell you, this dark star is heavy. it's been my favorite since the first time i heard it on the gdh waaaaay back when. it starts out of a tuning & drifts for nearly 20 minutes before they even get around to the 'dark star' theme.

yep. i know alan from back in my duluth days (i'm even credited with stomping my feet on a low record, i shit you not). i've heard a bunch of RGC demos and man are they good! they'll be loud, for sure... alan's really been getting into guitar solos lately & i'm sure the inclusion of kozelek will do nothing but encourage that.

do it! they will rock. this kozelek-with-the-RGC thing is probably going to be a one-shot affair, i think. they don't really have any plans to record or do it again after this brief tour (though the 'choir is working on a record). and plus, you'll be leaving arthurfest early the day before, leaving you more mental room to digest live music...

it actually ends up being totally different from low, enough that if you didn't know who alan was you wouldn't connect the two. the 'choir is good but in their own not-at-all-like-low way.

Today I listened to my SIAN/SPtFGS CD, on the way to and back from school. If I decide not to bring Half Smiles (original), it's going to be an UTBUTS day (copy). Opinions on bringing CDs in the car in Arizona during August (parking lot outside from 7:30 to 2:20)? I'm leaning toward the copy... or the "burnt", as it may become.

Well, yeah, if you're into Kelly Clarksdale and Christina Acquiescence, then I can see how it would be viewed that way.

BTW... I looked at oftherecord earlier... The review of the new Cocorosie is horrible. I mean, a horrible review, not a horrible album (although, it's likely that, too). It refers to the people who "fell for" Antony, as if that album's greatness is a scam of some sort.

also, I've never heard kelly clarkson...well, I have now admitted to having heard one song during Laguna Beach....anywaysssss

I posted about this on the board...it's probably wiped out...I just feel like it's his best stuff...it's just a lot more beautiful and heartfelt sounding to me. I think it sounds like it was fun to record. the tunes are incredible. I don't find the words to be much different than the words on his other 3 or 4 records...but I fully admit to not caring about lyrics, as a general rule....more of a feel thing for me....

Oh, yeah, it does sound good (and god, the cardboard and packaging is fucking immaculate!!), but it's still sort of funny. I was actually thinking about your story about taking the Pixies and classic era GBV to high-end stereo equipment stores to test the sound quality, and having the audiophiles scoff at the purpose of playing such things on top-of-the-line gear.

Still haven't heard Cripple Crow, but I'm certainly not expecting much based on what I've read recently and heard in these parts.

By the way, I got the Dirty 4LP in the mail yesterday today. I haven't listened to it all, but it is really cool. Sonic Youth is still my favorite band in so many ways, they just do so so so so much that I love. Great having the thick box and the big photos on the sleeves. And the jams are swell too!! A lot more amorphous than what I remember of the Goo demos.
