Since when was Asheville a cool place to tour? With acts like the Jicks, Flaming Lips, JSBX, Wilco, and Cat Power coming it makes me wish I'd never left home and went to crummy college in Knoxville. Stupid college making me miss all of this rock. Look homeward angel indeed.

No diggety. I've been living an hour south of Asheville for a year now and some really great bands have been coming through lately. I love seeing smaller shows at Vincent's Ear. Ugh, South Carolina is a total armpit, with the exception of Charleston. Thank god I am moving to Athens GA in T-minus six days.

Hey, hey, hey!! South Cackalack may be a total armpit, but some of us once called it home.

They've got some great bands as well. Danielle Howle and The Tantrums, Verna Cannon, and Confederate Fagg are the first to come to mind.

It's years behind NYC and DC, but there are many forward thinking people who are trying.

Actually, you ought to check out one of Verna Cannon's songs. It's really pretty. She's got a great voice. Slow, deliberate percussion.

No relationship to the band. Hardly even know them. Just a fan.

It's not really a bad place to live. I've seen some decent bands come through Charleston. JSBX will be here on Friday and Flaming Lips in two weeks.

Holding out hope Interpol will play a college tour and check in here. Ah, well- One can hope.

Sorry for the possibly perceived spam, but I had to add this one too since I woke up with a Verna Cannon itch today that I haven't been able to shake. This one is actually better than the last. Songwriting here is absolutely brilliant.

Dan Cook, one of the members of Verna Cannon, was actually in a band in the early nineties by the name of Lay Quiet Awhile. If you ever run across their only album, you've got to check it out.

what's this orange peel place like? i'm getting the impression that it's a moderately new club (as i haven't heard the name all that frequently). what's the scoop?

getting ready to move from chapel hill to greensboro...

The Orange Peel is pretty nice, main factor is the non-smoking venue. Very nice to go home after a not feeling like an ash tray. It is bascially a mid size warehouse with a trendy bar and a kitchy little hippie store along side.

And by the way woo hoo for Columbia, SC. Danielle Howle and Verna Cannon bring back many smiles from my college days. SC is a very cool place to live......

that is truly priceless. as much as i love club shows and going to see live music, i hate having to shower before i go to bed. as a non-smoker, the smoking in clubs borders on oppressive at times. greensboro and asheville aren't that close to each other, but i'll definitely have to hit some shows there in light of that knowledge. thanks!

this cannot be debated. I imagine that Malkmus will truly be the pinnacle of entertainment in the state of North Carolina.
