Am headed there tonight. Anybody see them last night? How was it? Highlights?
Also, I'm going to be working late and don't want to miss Destroyer...any idea what time Dan goes on? Is he solo?
Looking forward to some pure pop bliss!

I saw them on Monday, and it was probably the best show I've been to so far all year. The Destroyer set was a bit sloppy, mostly due to Dan Bejar being so drunk. At the show I went to, Dan came on around 9:30pm, if I remember correctly, and he was accompanied by his band.
The highlights were Dan's songs with the New Pornographers, and Kurt Dahle's drumming. Amazing show.

I heard the Destroyer set in Boston was "kinda depressing" in that he seemed as uninterested as could be. Kind of a bumout, as I fuckin LOVE his stuff (and his songs are consistently my favorite NP songs)...
what can ya do?
I still wish I hadn't missed the show. I haven't seen NP since the first "Mass Romantic" tour and the memories still get me excited.

Absolutely...it was also LOUD, LOUD, LOUD. Just a great show to put a smile on your face.

I thought he was actually quite good last night...he didn't seem too drunk...played a few Streethawk songs...didn't recognize much else though.

My thoughts are the exact opposite for Twin Cinema at least. The Behar songs are my least favorite.

Destroyer's set (in New York at least) was wonderful but, admittedly, not for everyone. Being a pretty huge fan (of everything except for Your Blues, which was kinda wack in my opinion), I agree with Tino that his songs are usually my favorites on the New Pornos records--between the two Jackie songs, Testament to Youth, etc. Suffice it to say then that it was quite a treat to see him up there with a full band. Interestingly, even though the Destroyer set was sort of up and down in terms of crowd interest -- The Sublimation Hour, not surprisingly, being the highlight -- the songs that he came back (read: stumbled) onstage for during the New Pornos set seemed to be the ones that the crowd most enjoyed and cheered along for.
Re: the New Pornos themselves....the full band's performance was wonderful; all in all though, I thought the concert was a little disappointing, due in no small part to the sound at Webster Hall being abominable. The New Pornos being a band that use four, five, and six lines of sound instrumentally and vocally, you need a sound system that at the very least keep things from sounding like one big muddle, and Webster's ain't it. For that reason alone, I put last night slightly below their recent sets at Prospect Park and Maxwell's over the summer. Oh well--
