Has anyone seen Sigur Ros live? I was thinking of seeing them at Radio City when they come to NY but I am not sure how their music would transfer to a live setting. The ticket prices are kinda steep (50 bucks) so I wanna make sure the concert is going to be worthwhile. If anyone here has seen them live, how are they?

I saw 'em a few months ago in Atlanta. They were really good but I wouldn't pay $50 to see them. Then again, I wouldn't pay $50 to see any band.

Saw them in Montreal last year and it was truly a great experience. The voice sounded even better than on cds.
Quite moving (many people were in tears at the end of the night)....if that means anything...
Anyway the visuals were perfect and the string quartet was amazing.
They played for 2 hours so i think 50$ is worth it.

Sportingly yours,

if it's not for charity or a double bill, never pay more than $15 for a show. period.

50 bones for a show is quite steep. Even in NY, as cool as it may be to see them at Radio City, I wouldn't fork over that many clams unless it was a truly special gig.

People who cry at shows for the post event dramatics make me ill.

I almost cried (with pain) after the Blues Explosion show... me and my pal stood 20 feet away from the speakers without earplugs. I literally thought I'd never stop the ringing.

$50.00 ticket price
A rock band (of any sort) attempting to play for two hours.
Being surrounded by crying people.
Hey, it's your money you can do what you want, but that's some rough stuff.

I thought I was going to cry once when I saw mogwai and there was one song where during a silent moment the guy on keys hit one low farty note and the wind from the PA speaker I was standing near almost knocked me over...

I wouldn't see Sigur Ros for more than the price of a CD, meself, if that. I mean, sure they've come all the way from Iceland and I'm sure if they've got a string quartet it must be expensive for SR to tour with them, hence the steep ticket price (never forget the lesson of the Belle & Sebastian "you motherfuckers are ripping us off" vs. "listen, it costs a shitload to tour with this many people, you cheap piece of shit" argument that went down here a while back, don't necessarily judge a foreign touring band by ticket price), but for me, unless Led Zeppelin were reunited with an exhumed John Bonham, I wont' pay more than $15 for a show, cos I'm broke and no band will make 1-4 hours worth that much to me.

Am I the only one who finds Sigur Ros to be pretty unmoving? I love spacey droney rock, and SR just have very plain, unexciting melodies and really stale song structures...

The Mogwai comment was hilarious. That's the only reason one can cry at a show.

Well, thank you for dissauding me. I just saved 50 bucks.

see if you can find someone who's willing to dub you a copy of their appearance on HBO's "Reverb." That performance is alright, and probably all you really need to see..

Sigur Ros is the best live band I've ever seen.

So you know where my opinions stand, and I live in Canada where concerts are routinely $50...many of them (because of the shite exchange rate).

$50 is steep but it isnt ridiculous, and for the record, I'd probably pay $100 to see Sigur Ros again...if I had to.

I paid $54 for Springsteen, and I don't regret it at all. But then, it was Springsteen...

I'd maybe pay $50 for Springsteen, but then again, that would involve waiting in lines and going to a big crowded arena, and I really wouldn't want to do that, no matter how much I'd love to see the Boss.

I guess I've seen so many live shows at this rate that I don't see the allure so much anymore. I mean, I love love love seeing bands play, but I know its just a fleeting moment, and I cannot bring myself to pay more than $15 or so to see a band or three give me a few fleeting moments.

I did pay $70 to go to Terrastock, but I saw some 35 bands, and it was really more of a weekend getaway than a show....

uh, I guess I could've just emailed you about this, tino, but that February 16th show I told you about down here in NYC with Major Stars/Endless Boogie has changed a bit. As in, Major Stars won't be playing. Apparently, Kate broke her arm slipping on some ice last weekend? Sad to hear about that, I hope her a swift recovery.

My friend who's booking the show hasn't told me who the replacement will be, he doesn't know yet, but it might still be worth your while to come on down.

Now that I think about it I would easily pay $50 to see the Major Stars and Endless Boogie at Radio City Music Hall. The weeping fans would be welcome too.

and thanks to Kate's unfortunate injury, I won't be able to next month. Dang. Wish her a speedy recovery, Dave.

Off course I wish her well, but I do have to say that slipping on the ice isn't very rock. This injury to Michael from the Cynics is.

that's incredibly painful-sounding. At least the doctor didn't brand his medical school initials on it, tho.

i guess it all depends on how many concerts you are used to going to.
if i went only once in a while, i would pay up to 30-35 $.
But if i went to at least 3-4 a month, i wouldn't pay more than 20.

I think I paid $27.50 to see Sigur Ros in November. I fell asleep during the set, but you can never put a pricetag on a great nap.
