This is in response to some questions posed in a thread in General Topics:
Just a couple of GBV questions:
1) Is Earthquake Glue the final title for the new album, and is that the permanent songs on it, or is there still a chance that Pollard will change something?
There is a very good chance that the songs will be changed. I'd say 99%. However, it seems likely that Earthquake Glue will remain the title.
2) What is the deal with the GBV box set? I've heard rumours of it coming out for a very long time now, but nothing from you guys. What rare songs will be on it? I heard that there was going to be another suitcase, but is that now just going to be used as the rare tracks portion of the box set?
We are still working on this project. It's extremely complex because the tracks are spread out across 3 different record labels, so getting all the rights has been tricky. In addition, the package is super-deluxe. Finally the DVD has to be whipped into shape and authored. We're looking at holiday season 2003 at the earliest.

Not to suck down at the Matador balls, but thanks for the info on this upcoming release. I've heard about it for the past few years and I'm pretty excited that it will, at some time, be an actuality. The wait for 'Slow Century' was definitely worth it, and the wait for this will be worth it.

Forgive me for being naive but I check gbv.com weekly and I've never heard of the Box Set or DVD. Is this Box set a Best of with outtakes type deal? What is the "dvd"?

GbV just recorded a new song last week in Chicago. It's called "My Kind of Soldier" and Bob wants it on the upcoming album. They recorded it in one day and then opened their set with it when they played with Cheap Trick Saturday night. Bob's very high on the song.
The DVD is "Watch Me Jumpstart.
The box set is talked about a bit towards the end of this article:

I had actually heard that the DVD would be GBV videos. Do you know what the DVD will be Patrick (or anyone at Matador--I hate to bother you guys about this :))
have a good day!

Some or all of the GBV videos, all of the "Watch Me Jumpstart" short film, plus live stuff and more.
Very much still in the planning stages.

Any plans to remix the sound or make it Dolby 5.1?I know that sounds blasphemous when it comes to GBV's lo-fi ethic but some of those videos are just unlistenable. They could at least be cleaned up a bit without compromising the hiss factor.

I just hope that the GBV vs. The Strokes Family Feud episode is included.

Doubt it. That was a Strokes song.

cungar,
When you say the videos are unlistenable, do you mean the videos on the original "Watch Me Jumpstart" VHS?
Are you sure the sound is any different from the actual albums on which the songs were released -- LP or CD? (or cassette!) Some of those records sound pretty primitive.

I don't really mean unlistenable. I'm mostly referring to the live parts. I just remember the old Watch Me Jumpstart VHS sounding crappy. My main question was whether any remixing will be done.
By the way while we're on the subject, will there ever be a new GBV concert professionally recorded and released on a Dolby 5.1 DVD? Love to see a good show by the current lineup on my Home Theatre!

I don't mean the Strokes song, I mean the actual entire episode of family feud; they actually made one where both bands played and drank.
The concert in The Who Went Home and Cried seems pretty professional.

Really? Sounds hilarious. I'd love to have a video (or actually be there) during a GBV drinking session before or after a show. Closest I came was meeting Bob behind the House of Blues when he was unloading (literally) beer from the van. Guy was cool enough to put the beer down and talk to me for 5 minutes. Definitely no rock star pretension whatsoever.

That's wicked; I've never been so lucky as to meet him.

The thing is I don't normally approach famous people I respect but I was just walking back to my car to put a T-shirt in it and he was just standing by the van, alone. The guy was so laid back and friendly, I forgot how much time I'd spent listening to his music and worshipping his talent. That's the thing I love about GBV is that they make huge music that you would expect came from some mega-group but they're really just a garage band.

wow cungar--that's an awesome story--I always thought he seemed like such a nice pleasant guy--I guess you just verified that for us. I'd love to meet the man...maybe someday...:)

He's always very accessible at shows.
It ain't hard to get a few words with Bob or anyone in the band.
