Antony and the Johnsons "Hope There's Someone"
The Darkness "One Way Ticket"
Queens of the Stone Age "Little Sister"

Woman King and EP are the only two I can even think of from this year.

Well, I've given you a bunch to investigate, then. :D

I'm gonna have to investigate those, cos I don't think I bought an EP released this year at all, and I certainly haven't heard of almost any of the ones on your list.
I guess that His Return by Growing qualifies, as its three tracks in about 20 minutes.
Also, the Pants Yell! 7" I released (full disclosure), is really fucking awesome. 3 songs in about 6 minutes, probably more of a "single" than an EP, even if there are two songs on side B.
...even if there are two songs on side B.That's what makes it a single rather than an EP, silly!

well, then OK, its an EP! and its awesome.

I forgot that Up Up Down Down Left Right Left Right B A Start released an EP this year (gotta get it) and just yesterday (before I started this thread . . . oops), I got the new Devoid of Colour EP by The Hidden Hand in the mail, so my short list may well change soon.

so, HCI, can you maybe give a rundown, like say a 1-sentence-per-EP descript so I know which ones might be up my alley to check out?

Arizona The Sun and the Room — keening male vocals over indie rock with a wonderful sense of melody — you can listen to all four tracks and a new song at www.ArizonaTheBand.com
Bailey, Denio & Palmer The Gospel Record — Derek, Amy and Dennis take on old gospel songs in an avant garde setting
Behold . . . The Arctopus Nano-Nucleonic Cyborg Summoning — totally insane progressive rock — they do in 17 minutes what King Crimson would do in 45
The Fugue Mysterious Animals — screamy indie punk stuff
Ghengis Tron Cloak of Love — screamy hyper stuff in the same vein as The Locust and An Albatross
Taylor Hollingsworth Shoot Me, Shoot Me, Heaven — indie rock kid from Alabama who apparently digs The Replacements and The Dead Boys
The Liverhearts Liver Up — skittery ATL post-punk band
Negură Bunget Inarborat Kosmos — Transilvanian black metal
The Raveonettes Pink-o-Rama — mostly mellower stuff from them (this was a digital download bonus for folks who pre-ordered Pretty in Black — it's a cardboard sleeve with a URL and access code — you download the songs and burn 'em to disc and put the disc in the sleeve — neat-o!)
Ramesses The Tomb — crushing doom metal from the former rhythm section of Electric Wizard

I really liked Voxtrot’s “Raised by Wolves” EP. They have a few tunes from the EP up on their Myspace (http://www.myspace.com/voxtrot). While they’re not the most original-sounding band in the world (I’d say they sound very influenced by the Smiths and the Field Mice), they’re writing what’s probably the best pop I’ve heard this year.
The Brian Jonestown Massacre’s “We are the Radio” EP wasn’t bad at all. They might be an entirely different line-up than what they were in the nineties (with the obvious exception of Anton Newcombe), but there are definitely some strong tunes there.
The second self-titled Wolf Parade EP (not sure if it was from this year or last year) and the EP they released this year on Sub Pop were also pretty good.

I may have bought a truckload of singles this year, but all I can think of that qualifies under the prescribed rules is Chequerboard's Dictaphone Showreels. It's a lovely record.
The White Stripes handed out printed, blank cd-rs with sleeves for The Denial Twist at their UK gigs in November. Somewhat similarly, you had to send a text message to get a code to download the live version of the track from the gig you were at (in my case Manchester Apollo). Except as I was roaming from Ireland it wouldn't work :(

wait, I don't think I understand...Sigur Rós out; The Gossip in and extra-big as it's my #1 for the year but the list is in alpha order.
The EPs list remains unchanged as yet as I have to listen to the new one from The Hidden Hand a few more times (dug it on first spin) and the Up Up Down Down Left Right Left Right B A Start Perris, CA EP is still on its way in the mail.

haha, sorry, my dry humor was a bit subtle...I got it. If I'd been here first, I probably would've cracked some variation of the same joke.

:)OK, I'm dense today. What?
You post the Gossip single in huge letters. Tino plays dumb and doesn't notice.
This sure is a long way to go for a joke.

The Gossip "Standing in the Way of Control"
Dude, I heard this on WFMU about two months ago and went crazy over it, too. If I remember correctly, it was preceded by a Major Stars song called "Black Road." And the set was finished off by "I Was Made for Lovin' You" by Kiss. Best three song set of '05.

Dammit, I completely forgot about the Earl Greyhound EP. When my list is finalized, in the next few days, it will definitely displace something. Their debut full-length is due next month, I think, and I can't wait.

Heartbeeps by the Mae Shi was really good, if only for "Eat the Prize"

Best three song set of '05.They played in when they were in the ATL back in October and it floored me; I was singing along and I'd never even heard it before. I bought the 12" as soon as their set ended. They played a ton of other new songs as well and I am so stoked for their new album that breathing is difficult.
