was sonic youth ever on Matador?

They have a picture of one of their records on their site, and it has what looks to be a matador logo on it.

obviously Matador staff are better qualified to answer, but as far as I know, no. Not SY matador releases.

SST/Blast First/Geffen/Time-Lag/Narnack is what I know of

I'm guessing that's definitely a Matador release, but not a Sonic Youth 7" pictured.

I miss the Matador generic label. a timeless design.

my NYCBlack 7" has that label, that's how I recognized it.

why would they put a picture up of someone else's release?

what's the context of the picture on their site? is it on a "discography" page?

EDIT: ok I see it.

Could be that they just thought it was a cool shot. they never claim that its a 7" they released...

maybe it's from a band they toured with?

will we ever figure out this mystery before 2006? time is ticking down.

more importantly, whose is that furry guitar in the picture next to it?

Correct. Here are Mark Ohe's comments:

"i checked into this and i think it's one of two s.f. seals records.

"the most likely candidate is "breath lies" from the robert haber memorial box...as this was on the same golden yellow vinyl and the credit line at the bottom of the label was very lengthy as is vaguely seem in the jpeg:

"the band name on the label in the jpeg isn't visible but in a low res photo from a digital point and shoot the green label logo might easily have disappeared.

"another possibility is "don't underestimate me"...same colored vinyl but the swingline doesn't match up quite as much."

but the swingline doesn't match up quite as much.

I don't know what it is, but i can just tell it's fancy.
