How is her solo material?
It's as consciously twee and shallow as all of her contributions to B&S. I wish she'd just get an office job instead.

Ditto, minus the harsh meaness. I haven't been satisfied with any of her solo stuff, and the only reason I listened to it in the first place was becasue I hoped it was better than her contributions to B&S. Wow, I guess that did have the harsh meaness in it, oh well!

None of it so far has been great, but I think some of it is pretty good. She has a new album of duets with Mark Lanegan coming out later in the month, and I like it a lot (in particular first single "Ramblin' Man"). She's actually signed to a worldwide deal with V2 for at least 2 albums, I'm curious if she's actually going to gain a following.

I liked the one with the pink cover and the drawing on the front. I can't remember what it was called and don't feel like getting up to look. I don't much like the new album with Mark Lanegan tho

I'd agree with the general consensous that all of her solo releases have been pretty horrible up to this point (along with her B&S contributions for that matter), but I also like the new songs she has done with Mark Lanegan. Very Sinatra/Hazelwood and I'm not really sure if I like it because it sounds so like that, or if it is good in its own right?

In thory she's a very good artest, my kind of proformer but i can see people having resvations. I've only heard her music with the gentle Waves and quite like it but wasn't blow away. I think she's lovely and has so much charm and you should leave her alone.

I kind of agree with everyone here (haven't heard the duet thing though)--however, I did think that "Swansong For You" is good, as well as the single "Falling From Grace." I would bypass everything else.

HRYK, though her material is still weaker than almost everything from B&S.

Yeesh, does no one else enjoy her contributions to B&S or her Gentle Waves work?
I really like her Belle and Sebastian songs, esp. "Family Tree" and "Is it Wicked Not to Care?"

I still haven't checked out her other solo stuff but her new one with Mark Lanegan has been in heavy rotation for a good month now.

Ahh, I think you're right. Still, I think she's written some lovely songs. "Is it Wicked Not to Care" is terrific.
