I won't get to see this myself cos it looks like Early Man doesn't wanna come anywhere near me, but I was wondering about the live setup.

I know they have a kind of revolving-door bass player thing going, but do they play live with a 2nd guitarist? or does the one guy just do everything? I've been listening to the album a lot lately and the sick guitarmonies and double leads seem pretty crucial, and seemingly impossible with one guitarist...

Early Man have a permanent second guitarist, whose name escapes me just now 'cause I'm a moron.

awesome!

now if we can convince them there's habitable land to the northeast of NYC where they can perform for people, I'll be psyched. The record just gets better.

I saw 'em last night. I like the album but they didn't really do it for me live. Then again, I wasn't in the best of moods and the opening band I saw, Priestess, left me severely underwhelmed, which helped lift my mood none at all. I missed The Sword but heard some of their album the other day and was unimpressed (good production but nothing to distinguish them from dozens, if not hundreds, of other generic "stoner rock" bands).

Went to see E. Man and Priestess on Tuesday night at The End here in Nashville. Unlike HCI, I really liked Priestess. They had all the rock cliches down pat and the inclusion of a drum solo was initially funny and resultingly awe-inspiring. Although E. Man wasn't quite as charismatic as Priestess, they held it down. Some interesting things: the drummer didn't cross sticks when on high-hat and snare, a la the dude from Dave Matthews Band. Also, both guitarists only had one pedal: a Boss tuning pedal. I would've expected a major pedal board. Both played out of these incredible Orange stacks. Methinks it's a sponsorship deal, but maybe not. For how much power those stacks can emit, the show was incredibly balanced and listenable.

They mentioned on their website that its a sponsorhip deal. That's pretty rad that all the sound is just the sound of the Orange stacks overdriving. Also, regarding the drummer, that's called "open" playing, and often its the case of a lefty-righty mixup when he learned to play. I play lefty drums, so I just have the whole kit reversed, but sometimes drummers will teach themselves on a righty kit and realize that its more comfortable for them to have their hands playing lefty (uncrossed).

Priestess, IMO, were all about cliché and pastiche. Maybe I would have liked them had I not already heard Orange Goblin, Throttlerod and Artimus Pyledriver, to name just three bands who do similar things much, much better.

Early Man shredded LA last night! Shirtless for the last three songs.
