and congrats to all the serfs of steeler homeland.
Fixed game? I've questioned some before, but this one was almost too obvious.

the first steelers' TD was BS - he clearly didn't cross the goal line. but the seahawks had their chances ... i think they lost the game more than the steelers won it. (though the PIT playcalling was certainly impressive.)
just me, or were the commercials kinda blah?

Taking away Jackson's TD was the correct call - he made a full extention push off....but I have to admit that, for the past week, all i have been seeing on nfl.com is "Steeler Powerhouse/Hasselbeck Bald".
that jackson call was terrible--maybe that's how they call football in canada... regardless, it didn't matter, and i'm glad the steelers and bettis (even though he's an ND alum...) won.
agree that the commercials were blah this year.
I went into the game not really favoring, but actually liking both teams. If pressed to choose, I'd go with Seattle because of Alexander being a Tide alum. But still, nothing but love for the Steelers.
The officiating was the worst of any game I've seen in years, though. Seattle got the shit end of the stick on 3 very important, game-altering calls (Big Ben's TD, Jackson's called back TD, and the Hasselbeck "low tackle" penalty). Any one of those calls in a game would make me question the competency of the officiating staff, but all three of them in the super bowl for fuck's sake... it's become quite clear to me that the NFL plays favorites.
I mean, what other reason was there for Tom Brady to be there on the field?! "Well, the Pats aren't playing in the big one this year, but we'll get our favorite son some airtime anyhow!"

there were a few great commercials. the "lite beer just got darker" one, the monkeys are always a hit, and the sheer (unintended) humor value of the pepsi "brown & bubbly" campaign...

I didn't even know what was happening. I got off of a plane and saw people congregated around a single television in the airport and thought there was another terrorist attack.

in other news a CFL player was inducted into the NFL Hall of Fame, isn't that a bit unusual?

We watched repeats of The Simpsons and Family Guy and an episode of Nature (I think) on PBS. Fuck the Superbowl.
We did watch the Stones rather pathetic performance for the half-time show, though.

I was eating a bacon cheeseburger in some restaurant last nite as the entire staff huddled around the TV watching the Stones perform half-time. until I saw the sportspage in the restaurant I didn't even know who was playing in the Super Bowl. Oh wells.

Yeah, I caught that Nature show on PBS too. That Plitvice Lakes National Park in Croatia is stunning.

I feel so happy for the city of Pittsburgh. For the bad rap we get, for the high taxes we endure, for the crappy weather thrown our way -- I must say we deserve this!!!
(although the calls were kinda pro-Steelers... I'm not complaining though)
I feel so shitty for the city of Seattle. For the bad rap we get, for the high taxes we endure, for the crappy weather thrown our way -- I must say we don't deserve this!!!
(the calls were totally anti-Seahawks... can someone direct me to the Commissioner's office?)

if you're talking about the place in canton it's the pro football hall of fame, not the nfl hall of fame. they play pro ball in canada, just a different brand.

lord, wasn't it horrible? they sounded so thin and bored. Mick looked like a weathered, over-excited stick figure on amphetamines and Keith even worse, wandering around looking confused playing sketchy wireless guitar. A sad display.

My mistake, I thought it was meant solely for the NFL.
