thanks for posting that! love hearing the new songs live again. i much prefer this version of love & communication. can't wait to walk around and listen to this. i remember a few years ago a really great show from pre-moon piz era recorded at black cat in DC was on line. i have 5 or 6 trax from it and it is so good , wish i knew where it was to get the others.....

To me this is the proof that Chan is the greatest songwriter of all time, let alone her time. Her songs stand up when stripped down to the bone. They don't NEED full band arrangements.:)

I just want to ask this because Im curious about it - how did Chan get on TV all that time ago being as obscure and little known as she was. Did Gerard have to put somebody in a headlock to get that sort of rad exposure at that relativly early stage? How did she become a TV star so quickly?

Steve Shelley. Period. If it wasn't for Steve it's quite possible you would never have had the pleasure of hearing Chan sing. Not just because he had a bit of semi-mainstream clout from Sonic Youth, but because he was her biggest fan and kept hounding her to record and play live.

Also, she's coughing throughout, so I think she had a pretty bad cold too. Still, the concert is fantastic and it doesn't seem to be affecting her voice at all when she sings.

Cheer up Moon pix. It was hardly starving children in africa. Plus she seems alright these days anyway.

Sometimes I think she should just get someone to play guitar for her live...I know she has done that to an extent with Teenie Hodges, but she still played a bit at the Barbican show. Because by her own admission she kind of sucks...
If she had a competent musician to play guitar for her she could concentrate on her singing more which along with her songwriting is what she's best at. Although the bits where she played alone at the barbican were really enjoyable, she seemed a lot more confident with the full band...I don't know if she feels its more meaningful if she plays the songs herself perhaps?. Maybe she should just practise more or something. Ramble ramble.

I do too. I don't really find fault with her playing but sometimes she does play it in a fashion where she's obviously either a) struggling with it or b) that's how the song goes. Personally I think shes struggling. She said in a recent interview that the shows with the Memphis Rhytym Band is the first time shes felt confident since she started playing in Atlanta with her friends.

It's annoying having to watch clothes when you just want to watch chan, but then i suppose this isn't a fashion message board. I thought the clothes were very nice and the music was brilliant but did any one else think they didnt really go that well togther? to me the clothes were quiet cold and smart and parisian and the music was all loose rock n roll/ r n b filled with warmth and love. It's annoying having to watch clothes when you just want to watch chan, but then i suppose this isn't a fashion message board. I thought the clothes were very nice and the music was brilliant but did any one else think they didnt really go that well togther? to me the clothes were quiet cold and smart and parisian and the music was all loose rock n roll/ r n b filled with warmth and love. Just viewed it, thought it was seamless. The dirty glamour of cat power rubbing up against the more austere luxury of Chanel I thought was perfect.
Made me think of the 1960's Paris, Velvet underground...I swore a couple of the girls smirked at some of the lyrics. Did you notice how hard Chan was concentrating trying to make it connect? Superb.

I never knew untll seing this that Chan's playing on this song is so simple. For most of the song she's playing a simple two note riff. Id always thought she was playing the chiming riff.

Cool as hell though. Playing that simple is actually really hard to do for that length of time.

Some moving interview footage (people can be bastards) and acoustic versions of "She's Got You" and "Don't Explain."

I must admit that I much prefer these acoustic versions of these songs to the Jukebox versions. I don't know why but usually more moved by Chan's voice when its against sparse music. I guess this is probably why I love "Silver Stallion" more than any other song on Jukebox.

Maybe someone else has already reported that Cat sang at the Blues
deal in Memphis, Tn. a few weeks ago. Three members of the Memphis Rhythm Band came on the outdoor stage to perform with her. Teeny Hodges played most of the evening. Then MRB keyboard player and one of the backup singers did THE GREATEST" with her.

Of course many other groups perfomed at this HUGE SHOW!! But the long article in the paper the next morning gave Cat the lion's share of attention AND A LARGE GREAT PICTURE. She mostly sang covers but I understand she was fantastic. Best wishes from a great river town, annie
