I always thought if Cat Power would have done a song with Elliott Smith it would have been amazing unfortunately that’s not possible. The song she did with Handsome boy modeling school was pretty good as well as the track she did with Sigmatropic. I think her and Beck could make some good music as well. It might be interesting to hear her and Mazzy Star together as well I think the two of them have unbelievable voices.

chan and bob dylan? I think that would make her happy.

Her and Mazzy Star would just be too cool. I have a few ideas.
Cat Power and PJ Harvey
Cat Power and Nick Cave
Cat Power and Bjork
Cat Power and Morrisey
on a different note
Cat Power to lend her voice to Two Lone Swordsmen, Belle & Sebastian, Super Furry Animals.

I think Do Re Mi would have been a good one or Dumb

just imagine neil's voice in that midrange that he sings, with her higher voice - they would go perfect and their styles are similar in ways.
i would kill for this collaboration - two of my favorite artists.

I've always considered Elliott Smith as the perfect match. But if you want a living partner, why not Sivert Høyem of Madrugada. He has the most amazing voice.

Brian McMahan. A song a bit like "Don, Aman" where he leaves lots of space between his lines, I think Chan's voice would sound awesome in those spaces.:)

aw chan and elliott could have made the most beautifully depressing music together.
Chan and kurt cobain would be like a dream come true. Another impossible request. I cant even imagine how cool that would be.

Whitney Houston, Scott Stapp or Ethel Merman. Maybe early 80s era Grace Jones

As long as she didnt sing with Vigo the Carpathian or Arthur Mullard I think she could sing with anybody and it would be divine.:)
She could sing the telephone book.

Did you catch her cover of paths of victory on the north country soundtrack?
i haven't heard much dylan but that song sounded great. I know he plays a few songs on the soundtrack as well.
Yes I do know paths of victory is on the covers record I just watched norh country last night thats why I brought it up plus all the Dylan songs on the soundtrack.

Does Chan appearing on the soundtrack mean i now have to watch that film? as up until now i really had no intention to. And do you think she did it because she likes the film or just for the money?

The movie was ok but her song didn't play till the end credits so it's not worth seeing just for that if that helps at all. I'm not sure about the second issue.

In my opinion if she did it for the money good for her, if somebodys going to get money and exposure for having their music played Id rather it be a true artist like Chan rather than some pain up the arse like Bono.

At the moment Im stuck on an mp3 of Flaming Lips and Chan doing "War Pigs" from Austin City Limits.
Its one of the greatest things Ive ever heard. I hope they record it one day when Chan is better.:)

I would agree it is her work and she has to pay bills like all the rest of us and she certainly doesn't have the abundance of money like Bono. I guess I would tend to think that it may have been for the money since it was already recorded on another album but maybe not because it's actually a Bob Dylan song and he might get all the royalties, maybe she just wanted to have her work along side his since he did several tracks on the album. It could very well be the exposure to Dylan fans who might buy the soundtrack because the actual movie probably didn't do much for her exposure since the song wasn't played till the end credits.

Ive always liked what Kurt Cobain said. He said "It's not hard to sign to a major label and keep your dignity. Most people have no dignity to begin with."
Chan has dignity by virtue of the way she's behaved throughout her life and the weight and quality of her work.

I remember shortly after Kurt died there was an article somewhere about him and Michael Stipe recording together I wonder if that will ever released. It would be interesting to hear. Have you heard Bright Eye's with Britt Daniels and Spoon I thought that was pretty good.

It's fairly enough up to her i wouldn't have but maybe she doesn't think of such things in the same way. I'll wait till it comes out on DVD if i do watch it, shame the track was only in the end cridiets and not the movies itself.

the first time i heard "evolution," i thought it was bill callahan singing with her. this was an advance copy without liner notes, so i didn't find out it was eddie vedder until a week later. the song was so much cooler for that one glorious week. i always wanted to see he and chan record something together.
Bill Callahan: "I have come to realize that I am really, really fucking good. So much better than almost everything that is going on around me. I am sorry but it is true."

Totally love the song she did with Handsome Boy Modelling School. Her voice would sound sooo hot with Mark Lanegan. I might have to start a campaign to make that happen.

I think that the coll. of Chan and the singer from Interpol (whatever his name is) wouldn´t be a bad one.
Let´s encourage Matador R. Management to set it up...
