My friend and I were having a discussion today about the state of rock and roll and the topic of the most fun to listen to band came up. My friend said Belle and Sebastian (particularly DCW) was his favorite feel good band.
I said the Violent Femmes. Everytime they come on I get a smile on my face and wanna dance (plus one of the best live bands i've seen)
What are your super happy funtime bands??

Good one! When I hear Neko's voice I can't help but feel all toasty inside. And those pretty hooks are guaranteed to put a smile on your face.
I'll add The Vandals. Upbeat tempos with hilarious lyrics. My girlfriend's dead always makes me laugh after a break up.

Excellent.

I'd have to say Pavement, especially the first three. They Might Be Giants are pretty fun, too.

Cat Power is one that uplifts me the most but if you mean music that is outwardly happy I would have to say Madness and Kool & the Gang.:)

As a matter of fact, I think "Super Happy Funtime" is Paul Caporino's tribal name.

I'm kidding! I love Cat Power records. I can't say I've ever made the association of "fun" while listening to them, though.

I think its a similar thing to blues in that way, like its not happy and jumping about like Madness but it is emotionally and spiritually uplifting. I think unless you feel it you wouldnt understand it. I think this is why reviews of her records always miss the point. Ive never read a review or article about her where the people really 'got it' if you know what I mean.
